Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition™ and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition™ will feature a re-forged version of the Infinity Engine with a variety of modern improvements.

Nice. I was more interested in BG2 anyway. That's easily the superior game.

Meh. I was hoping it would have been a release of project jefferson, but that game will probably never see the light of day.

Might get BG2 since I never did throne of Bhaal. I actually prefered BG1 with the way the overland map was setup, I loved just wandering around and exploring, never know what you would run into. It had more of an adventure feel than with the preset areas in 2.

For some reason, in regards to AD&D games, I much prefer playing lower levels. Like others have said it also took me numerous attempts to finish IWD2, finally finished it this winter and I had to force myself to do it.

Quotes from dev twitter feed:

Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition is going to have new content for the game you love, made by some of the original team members
Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition will include the Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion
bgee is a Beamdog exclusive. As for other platforms, tune is same time next week hopefully with 100% less explosions
Ugh... other platforms... no no no no no no no D:

We take mods seriously. (I led NWN after all) mods both current and future are important. More announcements to come
1st rule of #bgee Don't break the fun. We're using the 2nd Edition D&D rules.
We'll be rolling screens out in the future. Same place, Same time next week. Hopefully less server fires. #bgee
Yes, Infinity Enhanced is based off the latest Throne of Bhall codebase.
There will be two games. Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition #bgee=BG+TotSC, bg2ee=bg2+ToB
If by today's graphics standards you mean lots of 3D rendering, no. We're 2D isometric all the way
We want #BG3 as well. #bgee is a part of the master plan.
We're going to stay with the BG model of only voicing some of the content. We feel it allows for more in-depth writing.

I'm glad they aren't going full voice acting. There is just something about reading to me that enhances the game.. less voice acting = more dialog for example.

I hope they completely redo the UI. That was a major turn off for me when I recently tried replaying BG2. So much time wasted managing the inventory of all 6 party members, moving items around to whoever has extra space, etc..

They made us wait with baited breath for an announcement, and when the day came, they give no media to support the announcement? I'll be sure to not hire their PR team for my marketing.

Gee thats funny cuz I thought it was the easiest and quickest UI of pretty much any RPG I've ever played.
NWN 1 and 2 were a major hassle. Couldnt see anything if your resolution was above 800x600, sticky selection, couldnt drag into containers, making your own quick slots was a pain.

Well, at very least it looks like we will get a fully Modable game using the ToB engine and hopefully some enhanced graphics.

I am so glad they are keeping things Isometric and in line with the original. And the fact that BG3 is on their radar, YEAH!!!!!

That and party pathfinding were the only real weaknesses in the originals. If they eliminate that "you must gather your party" crap, fix the inventory and convert everything to hi-res I'll play it again.

sweet. I have always wanted to replay them again but i could never get past the low res and the gui. If that is all they are fixing and adding in the possible cut stuff that would be awesome.

now if I was any sort of photo manipulator i would take that Take My Money meme add a bg twist and post it :)

There was nothing wrong with the inventory in BG2. You're just used to the dumbed down Mass Effect 2-style games now. :p

Seriously, there's about a 99.99% chance I'm going to buy this.

I agree. It's standard Dungeon and Dragons.. every character has his/her own inventory. They don't carry a shared magical bag. If somebody needs a potion and a different character is carrying it, unless they are near each other you can't swap inventory. Yes, it was a bit of a pain in the ass to check potion count for each character after each battle though. But, you could also consider is as another element of strategy.

I believe this is why games seem to be getting dumber and dumber. You could keep simplifying every aspect of the game all the way down until it's just a single die roll per battle if you wanted to average everything out with all the math involved. Maybe more micro-managing is just an illusion of more strategy, I'd still prefer it.

Things that I'd want

  • Higher Resolution - 1080p is needed
  • Sound up to 2011 standards (often soundtracks are great, but the in game sounds are bland)
  • Special effects overlayed on the 2-D Gameplay - Even if its 2D Iso, the right shaders applied can make it look absolutely stunning
  • Redone Artwork - high res alone isn't going to cut it, a lot of the artwork, although beautiful, will look very bland and needs to be reworked.

The only way I won't buy it is if I am dead.

Not one screenshot despite it being due in a few months, and what's the point of having a website if you're just going to use twitter.

Ugh.

I'm not saying that there should be one shared inventory, but in BG2 you just spend way too much time staring at the inventory screen and a very small percentage of that time is actual strategic decisions. Most is just trying to fit all the loot you find among all your toons.
