bah whois lookup has registrant info hidden by proxy.

I would hope Obsidian would make BG3, and I don't even have total faith in them. Any other current devs will prob just fuck it up.

Actual website seems like this isn't anything remotely official.

EA is remaking the Baldur's Gate series and turning it into an FPS. :sneaky: (Nah, not really)

From what I hear, actually, Baldur's Gate is gonna finally be available on Steam. There's also rumours going around that they're making an "HD" version with native 1080p graphics. That's just a rumor though. But HD or not, I am pretty confident it will at least be on Steam.

Edit: There's more rumors going around that they're making a whole new game altogether. (And no, EA/Bioware no longer own the rights to the BG series, so you can stop panicking now.)

remake BG1+2 with DA:O engine? could be interesting...
of course if they'll let you have a 6 member party...
and set formations...
and with AD&D rules...

nahhh forget it.

It's probably just an HD remake, though I don't see the point what with all the user-made mods currently available (widescreen, port BG1 into BG2 engine, etc.)

When I see something real, I'll pay more attention. :p

AFAIK, we've seen community devs claim to be porting BG to NWN1, NWN2, and DAO. Not a single one of them got past tech demonstration and prologue.

BG II on Steam (with multiplayer support) would be kickass!

i wouldn't mind a BG HD remake on an iPad. I think I'm going to finally jump on the tablet bandwagon and purchase an iPad 3 when it hits.

I never played the series; wasn't really into rpgs back then. If it goes on steam I will definitely pick it to see what I've been missing.

I quite like that idea. Shame it's not likely to happen.

I know you can already play BG II on Android, but it would be really sweet to see an official port to mobile devices (optimized for touch input of course). Think about it, a game like BG II would mop the floor with every "RPG" game on Android and iOS combined. I think devs/publishers are really missing an opportunity to cash in on these old classics again. The depth of content and game play on these games is infinitely higher than the mob of swipe/touch games.

I don't think that will happen though. I'll keep dreaming though.

Would you really want someone to make BG3? After ToB, the main hero is pretty much out of the running for a sequel. and then you merely have a different character with a different story. And then is it really "Baldur's Gate 3"?

Don't get me wrong, if a developer were to make a game "in the vein" of Baldur's gate series. And be true to the story and the tactics and the game play. If they weren't so hyped on Graphics that they ruined it because of that. If it weren't something designed to be Ported to all consoles, and thus a horrible mess. If it weren't dumbed down for "A more commercial audience'. And if it were written by someone who didn't f-it up, I would love more games in that franchise. But that is a whole heck of a lot of 'if's. don't you think?

It wouldn't happen. It's too many ifs. The only way that "could" happen now is if someone did it privately and then sold the finished game to a company or sold it themselves.

The real reason i think it won't happen is that game developers are focused on three things.

1) High end graphics to dazzle the punters into buying a game. This, although nice, has served to ruin games because game mechanics go by the way side in order to accomodate this.

2) Console portability. If the game isn't sellable on all four platforms, distributors feel that they are missing out on a market and therefore profit. At it's simplest, production costs are limited because the ROI is not seen to be as high. And when you make a game portable, you don't use the full range of capabilities of PC's today. and you get games like DA2.

3) "Streamlining" to accomodate a wider and more commercial audience. Game developers want games that will sell into the casual gamer market. They want something that you can pick up and play for a few minutes and then go to something else (or atleast be able to multi-task along with Social media).

So basically, all of the "If"s in my post were chosen because they are what would kill it. Add to that the fact that "Good" writers cost money, which is non-existant due to wasting all of the money on high end graphics and portability, not very much that comes out today has story worth the title.

Here's a little something. http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/107098-baldurs-gate-website-surfaces-announcement-coming-soon.html

It's been nearly 11 years since Throne of Bhaal brought the Baldur's Gate series to a legendary and satisfying close, but now... something is stirring behind the scenes. We don't know what it is just yet, exactly, but what we do know is that there's now a theme song-playing Baldur's Gate teaser site online and that former BioWare designer Trent Oster and his crew over at Beamdog are behind it.

Does this mean we're going to be getting some kind of a remake in the same vein as MDK2 HD? Or perhaps an iOS, Android, or console port like Interplay and Beamdog teamed up for previously? Or maybe, just maybe, it will be an entirely new game in the Baldur's Gate franchise? We don't know, and when we quizzed Trent about it, all he'd say is:

We're not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much. Other than that, we're hoping to announce something soon.

I still remember those great screenshots of Candlekeep ported over to the NWN engine (I think it was anyway).

It's too bad that never got anywhere.

Yeah, that was far as they got, the Candlekeep prologue. :(

Yeah, that was far as they got, the Candlekeep prologue. :(

There is a NWN2 persistant world based on the Baldur's Gate setting. They have Candle Keep and The gate and Cloakwood and Naskal and Bergost all mapped out. In fact, quite a lot of stuff from the first game is in there in one form or another. Unfortunately, the creators are trying to make it into an MMO instead of a real game. :(

I still haven't played 2. Is it a big deal to get 1 first or just skip and go to 2? Haven't been into games much in a few years so I get burnt out kinda easy... Thinking I may just have to pickup 2 sometime soon since I've always heard how good it was.

I would play 1 first to get the lore.

It makes 2 much deeper imo. The only downside is you'll be busy for a long time playing 1 +exp.

I don't know whether to be excited or horrified over this...

Yeah, who knows what they mean. They could be hinting about a refresh or an actual sequel. I think most people would probably prefer a real sequel as opposed to an updated graphics version of the older games. So it just depends on which is preferred by each person... But one thing is certain, this secret, hidden, cryptic message stuff is pretty similar to the stuff Blizzard was doing leading up to the official announcement of Diablo 3. Hmmmm?

I have to say that I had planned to play through 1 first then move on to 2, but 1 leaves a lot to be desired. It feels like work when I try to advance in that game, since it just isn't that fun. I wish I had started with BG2 to be honest.

I personally don't care if it's a remake or a sequel, all I want is a top down party based RPG with plenty of story and dialogue.
