Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum (this is my first post) but not the website however (I read it often). I visit Icrontic, Short-Media and Addaboy Often and were getting a small group of people together to try to pull off what I've written below, this is a copy and paste of what I posted recently on those boards and were just trying to get a few more people interested in the project before we can do it. To the Mods, this is not any sort of business advertising scheme or anything of the sort however I know I'm new here and I understand if you feel this is an unacceptable post - please dont hesitate to lock or delete it if this is the case. Anyway, here it is!

As some of you may know, I run a small hosting company. However I've got one problem.. When I got into it I made the decision to buy top-notch equipment and colocate in a top-notch datacenter making the bandwidth, rent and equipment costs high. Why is this a problem? Well, I have a hard time affording the goodies like hooking up friends with some webspace and bandwidth, sponsoring websites, etc.
Anyway, Here is what I'm proposing. Please keep in mind this is not a money making thing for me, it actually has absolutely nothing to do with our business at all. Unfortunatly, you'll have to trust me on that one ..
I'm trying to get a group of people together willing to pay Approximatly $8.00 USD per month to pool together and rent a dedicated server from a cheap company at a cheap datacenter with cheap bandwidth. If we can get 20 people together paying 8$ each we will be able to rent a server thats approx. P4 2.0, 512MB ram, 700GB Monthly Transfer and an 80GB Harddrive. That works out to about 74GB of usable space after OS install format and swap and stuff and THAT works out to 3.7GB of storage each and 35GB of monthly bandwidth each. You probably won't find decent hosting anywhere else for that. My team and I will be contributing our time and experience to the configuration, securing and other various administration of this server to keep the uptime as high as possible.
Just for some more info, we'd of course be super leniant with everything that goes on with this server because its not going to belong to anyone in particular, it'l be all of ours. So everyone will get unlimited email addresses, unlimited domain hosting, and pretty much unlimited everything if its fair to everyone.
