Something I always wondered about being a writer or comedian........

What if you wrote something and you spent so much time on it and then you found out that some one else had that idea and wrote about it.

There are thousands of writers & comedians............ what if you make up a joke and then find out someone has already invented it? Is there a data base for jokes?

It would really piss me off if I wrote a novel that took me years then only to find out that someone wrote a book almost exactly like that.

It happens all the time. Look how often hollywood reuses plots.

EDIT: Terminator is a good example. The makers of the movie were sued for the plot since it was damn close to a Harlan Ellison story.

Well, it's kinda the same as any other art..

There are only so many colors, yet it is how they're applied to canvas that makes the art..

There are only so many musical notes, but it's how their composed that makes the art..

So.. there are only so many words, but it's how you say them? ...

or something.

true but for comedians ......... it's considerd very unprofessional to tell someone elses joke.
