during the last sale, i bought a stick ofr 256 pc2100 ram for 39 dollars. They sent me 512pc2100 ram by mistake. I did not tell crucial about it, nor make any efforts to rma (obviously).

today i wake up and see this e-mail from crucial in my mailbox

does that mean they think i RMA'd a stick and are sending me yet another one?

Being that you already got over once and didn't get caught (didn't say anything either...) I'd do the right thing this time and repsond to the email or send them one indicating that you have not RMAd anything. You got over before, but if you let them screw up again, they'll catch this time.

Actually I read in financial news that Micron is 1 of the companies named in a price fixing law suit so perhaps it's their bad Karma catching up with Them 😉

...named in a price fixing law suit...
FWIW, the lawsuit names Samsung, Hynix and Infineon in addition to Micron. It pretty much targets anyone of any significance in the memory manufacturing industry. The antitrust lawsuit is no doubt going to be as useful as all of the other class actions lawsuits that I've been an unwilling member of. No doubt it will be another great class-action antitrust lawsuit in which the lawyers will work hard on behalf of consumer rights by working towards a settlement that gives the lawyers tens of millions and the customers will get a very useful $10 credit towards the purchase of EDO RAM in the future.

The investigation by the Justice departement is the interesting one to watch. Still it's just an investigation. Nothing's been proven.

As far as the original subject of the thread, I'd call them up and explain to them their mistake. It's the ethical thing to do. Odds are that they will tell you to keep it and will clean up the computer entry. If not, well, it's the right thing to do.

Great follow up PM 🙂 Concerning the ethics involved I would like to put forth this perspective for consideration. As Obi-Wan said "many of the truths we cling to depend upon our point of view" and from a certain point of view you could say that the extra memory he was sent has been bought and paid for through his previous purchases made at artificially high prices that were the result of price fixing (I'm presuming they are indeed guilty of course 😉 ) and that he is therefore entitled to keep it as a form of restitution, because as you stated the lawyers are the only ones who win anyways! Although I couldn't feel good about keeping my mouth shut if you will, perhaps he adheres to the view point I expressed above :Q😛

2 weeks ago, I PROMISED to build friend a NEW $500 system. I quote her that I will NOT make a penny out of it.

I start ordering parts and pretty much ditch my old system to her, needless to say, my OLD junks.
After reinstall everything, my OLD system work perfectly as of today. (SHE REALLY LOVE IT)

She insist took me to dinner + $50 gift certificate for my efford to build her the NEW rig.

My cost?
I buy a used P4 EpoX mobo and it went south in 2nd day!!!! (cost $70)
The used GTS card I bought, DIE after new Abit mobo arrived!!!! (cost $40)
During the mobo incident, it must has done something to my back up HD, and I end up lost all of my file and data in the HD!!!!!!! (cost $ priceless!!!!!!!)

KARMA? It is child's play.
I can't believe I sold myself for few dollars!!!!! 🙁

LMAO@TimeKeeper 😀 Don't you hate it when the wheel of Karma swings 'round and hits you right in the Nads? It keeps me on the straight and narrow mostly....mostly 😉

My story:
I RMA'd two 256MB PC2100 Reg ECC modules that my Abit motherboard ate before it finally gave up the ghost.
One module was sent to me in Santa Barbara, California and the other was sent to my parents in Idaho for some reason. Before I found out that my parents had recieved one, I called Crucial about it and, according to their records, only one module had been sent <?> so they sent a third to me via overnight delivery. I let my parents keep the one sent to them.

Odd. No complaints here though. Their service is the best of the best.

Hmm, maybe your account got mixed up with someone elses. They ordered the 512mb ram, while you ordered the 256 and you got each other's orders. So the other guy sends the 256 stick back, and thats what the letter could be about.
