Something about Windows that has bothered me for a long time

When I select a whole bunch of files to shift+delete, once in a long while I will accidentally press enter while holding shift. (For some reason, I tend to use my left hand to press those keys occassionally on my Microsoft Natural Keyboard.) Well you know what happens...it tries to open all those files.

I wish they would have some prompt like "Do you really want to open all these files?"

I've seen it somewhere before. On a Mac right?

Yep. That sucks. It also sucks when you click on a bunch to (do whatever) and somehow it thinks you wanted to make a shortcut of all of 'em. So then you have to do what you were doing and then go back in delete all the shortcuts.

And has anyone found a Windows GUI method to batch rename a bunch of files? I always have to use commandline when I want to do ren s?*.* s1*.* or something like that.

If you click a file, then hold shift and click another file, then all the files in between will be highlighted. Then just right click and select Rename. Windows will rename the first file and rename the others using whatever you type in plus a sequential number. For example: You highlight 10 files and rename them Bob. The first file will be renamed Bob, the second will be Bob1, then third Bob2, etc. This works in XP...don't know if it works in other OS's. Is that what you're asking?

I've noticed this too, but only on WinXP. 2k, Me, 98, 95 all didn't have this problem for me before.

yeah this is was pain in the ass. i know when i had win98 at least i would highlight a bunch of files and then right click and bring up properties. of course i would want like a properties of the files combined, but noo it opens like 100 different properties windows of the different files.
