Somethign odd regarding PSU..

I've just noticed this on my machine, but I can actually "hear" the CPU utilization ! When it goes to 100%, the fans in the computer seem to change speed - perhaps a bit lower, I'm not sure. Is this normal? Or a sign that my PSU is not giving enough juice? I know that none of them are variable..

Celeron D 320 (2.4) @ 3.06 (can't seem to overclock stable above this... related?)
MSI 865PE Neo2
2 x 512 Kingston 3200
80GB Seagate
350WATT Eagle PSU

thanks

Is it a high pitch humming sound? i heard this with my old allied 300 watt PSU. I suspected that it was the change in the ammount of power drawn. I agree with thugs...buy a better PSU, I bought a Thermaltake and I love it, ive heard equally good things about Antech. In the world of PSUs the old "you get what you pay for" is right on. I recommend something thats at least $50.

You sure it's the PS fans that you hear? My motherboard does a "Smart CPU" fan thing where the CPU fan is monitored and auto adjusted by the motherboard, Just an idea...

Most power supplies have thermally controlled fans these days, and since heat goes up as power requirements go up, it shouldn't be abnormal for PSU fans to increase as CPU load increases.

OTOH, it could be your CPU cooler.

As long as your computer is stable (and you aren't annoyed by the fan noise), I don't see a good reason to change power supplies.

If you are thinking of changing power supplies, check out this list for quiet ones:
