Gibson is EXTREMELY protective of their name, and will go after anyone saying that something is a "Gibson copy" or anything along those lines. They even filed a lawsuit against Elderly Instruments (a very well known high-end instrument shop) for selling a banjo on their website as a Gibson copy. Elderly changed the listing to "Famous Brand Copy" but Gibson still moved forward with the lawsuit. It was pretty ridiculous, and with Elderly being such a popular enthusiast shop, made Gibson look pretty bad.
They then severed their contract with Elderly because Elderly dared to sell competing brands of banjos at their store along side the Gibson Bluegrass line. Elderly was 1 of only 9 stores even selling the line to begin with.

Gibson is just one of those companies now that I refuse to support. I sold off my Gibson LP guitar last year. Oh wait, can I say that on here? Crap, they're going to sue me now.
