Someone wants me to do a networking job for them....

My friend's uncle is a lawyer and his partner insists they network the *2* systems they have in the office. Here's the scenario:
He's got the hub already wired and all the cabling is already run through the walls. They're getting 2 new Dell's in, with network cards and all. So it's a matter of me plugging these systems into the network and then configuring Win98 to work on a 2 comp network. The guys who he contacted before wanted $1200-$1400 for that! I set up a 2 comp network a while back, I'll have to brush up on that quickly. The only networking I've dealt with in the past 2 years has involved nothing but DSL and Dial-ups So what do you think I should charge them?

I'd say a fair price is $500. I mean it'll take a total of what 10 minutes to set these up??!!!

But then again, its your uncle. But who knows, maybe he'll be cool with the $500

Networking just TWO computers . . . realistically, that can't be more than a $100-$200 job. Maybe the person who they contacted before wanted much more because they also ran the wires through the walls and such. <shrugs>

lol - I'd say 300 should be fair, I already told him that price was an utter joke and that it's no big job. I need to go read up to make sure I remember what I'm doing

I would charge accordingly to how much work that will need to be done.

I'd say $30, you can set the thing up in less than 1/2 hr, $60/hr is a lot of money if you ask me

I did an exact same job...charged 200/hour, and it took 3 hours to complete(ran into a few problems) I'd say thats realistic

Holy sh;t. Did they bother looking anything up themselves? Shouldn't take more than 10-30 minutes. I can't believe there are people who would pay that much for such an easy task. I need to find a new job.

Personally, I get $125/hr for any job involving networking no matter how small or simple.
They are paying for knowledge, not for sweat. So just bill him per hour.
