OK here's the deal.... i'm about to buy a customized dell from the website. Dell only sells their computers with Intel motherboards as you know but you can choose whether you want RDRAM or DDR SDRAM and i wanna know which i should pick (i'm gonna get 512 MB of either)

the RD ram is PC800 @ 400 MHz

the DDR SDRAM is PC2100 @ 266 MHz

any help would be Greatly appreciated. thanks

In benchmark tests, RDRAM outperforms DDR RAM on most levels. However, the performance difference is about 10 - 20 percent only. Sometimes it may be higher, but not by much. If you are cost conscious, DDR offers the best for your money, but if top notch performance is what you're after, then its RDRAM.

I'm running on RDRAM myself, and I've used lots of DDR systems, and there is no real performance difference for everyday usage with today's powerful processors.

RDRAM - Depends on how many channels the motherboard has, which slots you put the chips in, and how much total memory you're gonna get for the money.
DDR - Still a great choice, cheaper, almost as fast as fastest RDRAM configuration, as faster or faster than some slower RDRAM configurations.

My answer - Whichever has more total ram, and is cheaper, I don't really think you'll ever see a performance difference based on the type of ram you chose. It's a Dell after all.

if you are only out looking for the best numbers and the price doesn't bother you, grab the rdram, if you don't mind not having the highest benchmarks, and the price is an issue, go with ddr.
