It's 59 discs! What do you expect?

And a single season of ST:TNG is 120, same with DS9, VOY, TOS, and The Twilight Zone, and more.

If they cost less, more people would buy them. At those prices, they practically force people to BT and other filesharing apps.

well that is why you should embrace captalism, when no one buys, the price will drop. why the fvck would you want the government to be involved

Since when have big corps and labels cared what the little consumer cares about? Look at the RIAA and MPAA, you think the majority of people agree with them?

I won't be buying the over priced sets, but a lot of other people will buy them. And they will continue to sell them at the over priced prices.

 the government is the answer!

Wow, that means the entire nine seasons cost about twenty whole dollars to manufacture, including the cost of stamping DVDs and the cost of cardboard for the packaging, plus printing.

The studios are making BANK on DVDs...profit margins are astronomic. Amazon could discount the 9 season set by 75% and the studios would still make BANK.

But they figure for a classic show like the X-Files (with such a die-hard cult-like following), the market will bear $100/season.

They are Asian import originals... not burns.... but you'll need a region free dvd player to play 'em.. or unlock your dvd player to be region free.
Modded Xbox FTW!!!

Is the audio in Asian, also?

What I don't get is, it appears from those comments on Amazon that they keep raising the price on that set. It was "only" $629, now it's $809. Jeez. Why are the foreign versions so much cheaper?

Don't ask me how I know any of that. :Q;)

Why don't you buy the DVDs while they are on sale?

Just like today, I bought 2 seasons of Married With Children <buy one get one free from Best Buy> for a total of $25 plus tax for both seasons.

Not bad for two seasons.

I also bought 24, The Shield, The Simpsons, etc. when they are on sale on Black Friday.

<<<--------- almost never pay more than $10 a movie DVD or $20 for series DVD.

Price it out, only $13 per disc, cheaper than movies, and you get more. But yeah, for the cost they should half it at least.

But in terms of DVD sets, that's kind of pricey. Should be no more than $10/dvd in a dvd set.

Actually people need to stop paying that much. Companies sell them for what the market is willing pay so why regulate them. Try educating the consumer.

...And they will say they are are pricing that high because we are "stealing" it.

A girl I knew in highschool was really into X-Files, so I just "borrowed" all nine seasons from her. Good show, and probably worth more than $90.

EDIT: the shows

Already did, rip offs. :(

As for as the burn and return philosophy goes, buying a lot of DVDs aren't cheap either. Then there's the time factor related to encoding TV DVDs to DivX/Xvid. Converting them to DivX/Xvid also means that they will suck up lots of hard drive space, forcing me to buy larger hard drives.

Perhaps after I get my BluRay burner . . .in about 8 months. . . .

Bah, I think it'd be a lot easier for all concerned, and a better overall business model, to limit the sale of DVD seasons to 60 USD. They'd sale a lot more DVDs for 60 then they would at 120.

DVDs are EXTREMELY cheap now, I mean I picked up a pack of 100, Fujifilm discs for 29.99 CAD ....

Also why on earth would you waste time encoding to DivX/Xvid? Straight up 1:1 copy FTW!

This is outrageous. Same with ST:TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT. I'd like to have some of these shows in my collection, but I don't know many people who can justify the cost of those sets.

I want all of Three's Company but don't want to take out a second mortgage to get it.

Don't any of you own dvd recorders? When the show comes on, I hit the "record" button. When the show ends, I hit "stop". When I have 2 hours of shows on the DVD, I press 3 buttons to finalize the DVD. If I wasn't lazy, I could edit out the commercials.

Netflix. Watch it and return it. Why would you want to own several seasons worth of shows on format that will become obsolete eventually?

And companies wonder why people pirate stuff online. This is exactly the reason.

Companies are so set on making huge profits, then they get pissed when people say F-you and download the stuff. heh.
