There is this thing called "The Internet." It allows you to purchase things from the comfort of your own home. Sometimes, these things are even located far from your current location. I've bought something over the internet and it came to me in Wisconsin from California! It was really amazing, I am not sure how they did it. I looked at my CC statement, and sure enough, the charge was originated in California. I tell ya, technology is amazing.

It is done because I was on the phone for 30mins to talk to someone. That someone was not friendly to me. She ask if I had a roommate that took my card and used. First she asked where I was calling from and I said home Michigan, and the pending transaction are in CA ... I tried to point that out to her ... and she just got attitude with me.

Not sure where you're going on the CA/Mich thing. If that was all it took to flag my CC then I'd be screwed. People travel

Yeah people travel, but they don't time travel. I mean the transaction are charged today and pending from Bath and Beyond in CA... and I am calling from MI. How is that possible ?

Fairly straight forward. The retailer (or rather their credit card transaction insurance) takes the hit. Had my checkbook stolen and some Mexican dudes used it all over town. The Bank couldn't have been more helpful. Only one retailer gave me hassle. They initially were refusing to lift any fraudulent checks and were threatening to take me to small claims or get a collection agency to come after me. Luckily the bank informed me of my rights against this kind of situation, and according to State law I was fully protected once I served them with certain information, and they had no recourse against me (basically the law states that it's their fault for not being diligent in checking the info on the check, ID, etc...). Once I informed that company that I was aware of my rights in the situation and had fully complied with the law concerning the situation, they promptly apologized and never bothered me again. Of course I have never shopped their since because of the way they acted. Took a couple of days before I had a new account and all the fraudulent money returned to my account.

actually at one time, and maybe still now, it was against the cc retailer agreement to ask for ID.

I was talking about transaction where the card was presented at the store, smart ass.

How do you tell the difference between a transaction at a store and an online one?
