Someone is stealing my personal information! HELP

Hello guys,

Hopefully you guys can help me.. I am a computer noobie.

Someone on another message board is getting my personal information and posting it publicly. It all started with a religious debate and in the end I chose to ignore that specific poster because they started to profusely use swear words to get their point across.

They started posting up my home address and social security number to get my attention. Because I have not responded back to that particular person, they began to post my wife's personal information as well.

Would anyone be able to help me prevent this in the future and enlighten me on how they are doing this? I am freaking out over this!


I have not downloaded anything suspicious in the past. I do not visit those file sharing programs. I run NOD32 and scan with Spybot. A part of my problem may be that I don't run a firewall. I am currently using Windows Vista. (What free firewall can I use that is compatible?) I will be ordering a credit monitoring service in a bit to help protect my identity.

Is there anything else I can do!? Please help! wtc

Exactly. PM or e-mail their moderators, and e-mail their system admin and anyone else with responsiblity for the site. You can find the registered owner from a whois page, such as this one on godaddy.com. You may even find the owner's real phone number if it's that urgent.

eh...if it's important....

I was on the God side. I know Christianity have gotten some bad rap lately so I never imposed on those who don't believe in him.

All I stated was that it was my personal belief that I believed in him. I also told them that even though it may be likely that he may not exist, it is my religion and it takes faith for me to believe in him.

He started swearing and acting childish, then I just stated that I was going to ignore him.

Now with that said, am I going to get much help here?
 
ZoneAlarm is a free firewall, isnt it? I have never used it, so I am not sure.

Windows comes with a firewall, for what that is worth.

Contact the moderators/admin of that site. They might be of some help. And contact the police. If they are posting your personal info... social security #.... you are right to be freaked out.

hey don't worry about that, no one should judge you based on your beliefs, and they are even more unstable if they feel the need to insult you or attack you for them.

PMing the moderator or admins in question would be a good start!
 
What's the name of the site? If you you're not familiar with using whois pages to find the info I mentioned, someone here may be able to help you.

Site administrator has been contacted but I doubt they will do anything. It looks like that site doesn't even have any moderators and site rules have been violated in so many cases yet no remedies have occurred. So ghetto....
