Someone is on my wireless network right now, what can I do?

I was sitting here and noticed an IP conflict message popped up, so I check my workgroup and there is a Toshiba user connected. I log into my router and see it has been assigned an ip address. I tried exploring there pc but it has a password. What can I do? It has to be one of my neighbors, I live in a house with a big yard.

If you really want to spy on them, running a packet sniffer will record everything they do while on your connection (not anything that's encrypted though).

Agreed. Don't bother with MAC address filtering or SSID hiding. Those are both easy to bypass, WPA is really the only & best way to secure a wireless connection. Just use a long enough pass phrase.

You don't use MAC filtering to block specific MACs, you use it to block all MACs that don't match yours.

I imagine he knows that Magnus, I believe jpeyton was referring to how easy it is to snag a MAC out of a frame and just change his to that and boot the other guy off.

Unplugged modem from router and you will use modem connection for a day.
Then reset the router next day, with a security enabled on wireless!
