Someone is going to pay for this.. Either Newegg, Enermax or maybe IBM (well its not their fault).

We bought a Enermax powersupply from Newegg as my friends PSU konked out.

Yesterday we were hooking it up and we connected everything and powered her up .. and the system failed to detect the hard drive.
Moments before with the backup PSU it was working fine (backup PSU was from work..). So we rechecked cables and tried it again.. still it didnt detect the hard drive.

THen I noticed that the 5v and the 12v were reveresed. The place where the yellow 5v is to be was a 12v red cable. Which means we sent 12v thru the 5v slot that powers the drive's electronics. It seems someone at enermax wasnt paying attention and put the yellow in the red's spot and vice versa. Its only ONE connector that has that problem. We tried with a proper connector but the drive wont turn on.

How the heck do we get this fixed.. IBM wont RMA it cause its not their fault (Its a 75gxp that hasnt given any problems since we got it last year in jan) and Enermax probably will play around with it for a month and say "screw you" and newegg.. I dont even want to think..

Who's fault is it..

We lost quite a bit of our video edits in that drive. We lost the last edit of the music video and we lost some other smaller cuts and our personal videos. I hate this.. someone is going to pay for it. While we have the music video cut on a FTP site (quicktime) and we have the source.. we have to restart editing with that source once again...

ARRGH!!!

tgg

No one is going to accept responsibility. It's one of those risks you take when you build things yourself.

Course most people would probably have just RMA'ed the IBM drive as being dead without offering the extra information as to why it died.

Take the drive to one of those data recovery places.

rma both the drive and the power supply, and also hammer

not a big issue with getting the new drive, his data is toasted.

Those data recovery places are extremely expensive..

You could take a chance and buy another 75GXP.. and switch controller boards.

And then RMA the new one with the dead board. 😀

lol...

Text

and Im looking for the page that tells you how to switch the controller boards

edit/ stuff

you like all the work I put into this
rate me plz!!!!!!!

sorry about the 2nd link not working I fixed it stupid opera doesnt insert text that goes over the size of the java script window so it ended in 18 not 180

o well just give me a 9 😉

no0b has it right.

Buy another identical hard drive and switch the controller board. That way you will retain your data when you RMA the drive. I have done this before, the only tool you need is a small allen wrench, which is usually what they use to secure the electronics to the bottom of the physical assembly.

You might be able to use a 50gb in a 45 but of course I dont know....
a quick search on pricewatch revealed this for $108 and here for 129
the first one doesnt have any reviews at resellerratings but the second has mixed sort of poor reviews here
Im sure more searching will reveal results from better stores
