i'm trying to figure out if i'm in the minority...

i see this happen a lot. someone hits someone else. it may be intentional or not. but the person who is hit ALWAYS reacts as though it was intentional and malicious, and hits back.

am i in the minority in that i back up and go "wtf?" first?

some people are confused WRT weapon. so:

generally fisticuffs, but could mean a body check or a bat as well.

a car, it's safe to assume it was accidental if it's not clearly malicious.

besides, i'm talking about your immediate reaction. like the first 2-4 seconds after the action. wrt a car, you'd have to plan out your revenge, and planning and executing it would take longer than 2-4 seconds.

Hit back is my reaction. I hope that now I could keep my head clear and try to solve things without more violence.

Growing up rough has its downsides...

i'll update the OP with this.

My first reaction would be to figure out why, & than walk away. This would be my new approach my old approach would be to knock them the fvck out.

I dunno. I know that in high school, someone just slightly out of my range of vision once punched me in the kidney - so without looking I half-turned and hit them with a left.

Turns out I punched a friend's girlfriend in the boob. Apparently that hurts a lot, but hey, I make no apologies for instinctively protecting my kidneys. 😛

you turn around...knock em out with fists or anything in sight...then ask questions later. your not going to kill them so teach them a lesson, whether its "watch what your doing" or "know who your hitting...and dont do it again"

Your question's too vague to provide a precise answer. If I've been in a heated argument with someone and I get hit, of course I'll hit back. If it was somehow unintentional and I'm not severely injured, I'd just shout "WTF", see if it's over and then act accordingly.

Not that I get hit very often, so *shrug*.

you act like you get hit on a daily basis....9 times out of ten if you get hit, you know why.....hit back!!!

Crush their trachea. That gives me enough time to fully contemplate the situation as they choke to death. If the hit was accidental I can always apologize to their family, sorry my bad.

I used to just shatter a kneecap, but some people can still function after that, so I couldn't be sure that I could gather my thoughts in peace.

seriously.

I've never been hit without seeing it coming long before it happened and being at the very least, semi-prepared. Usually, I get things thrown at me - bottles, a brick, and once a pool que. Seldom does it come to close combat, but I've been stabbed once (in the shoulder), and had a gun pulled on me once, and on someone else I was with and subsequently positioned myself in front of the gun after that to cool down the situation.

Now I am an adult in the corporate world. I live in different areas, move a lot for work, and either open or conceal carry depending on location. I've learned when to analyze dangerous situations far before they escalate to physical violence, and (typically) quell them far in advance, even if it means taking a pride hit to do so.
