Someone has a 50 mb file that I need transferred to me but I don't have ftp at work or any instant messaging service...

I do have a high speed connection at work but I don't have an easy way to get this file transferred directly to me over the internet.

Are there any free/low cost on-line storage sites that will allow him to upload the 50 mb file then I can download it from there?

No. Most email servers limit the size of attachments. Most will not allow over 1.5 MB.

Is this person located nearby - or is this a long distance transmission?

I've had this problem myself (my email doesn't care but theirs always seems to limit it).

Nearby: buy yourself a USB memory stick.
Far away: There are many options. You can zip it up into many smaller files and mail them separately - that is probably the easiest.

I was thinking about that...I think winzip has a feature that will do that.

You may have a limit on your quota though.. might not be able to get all 50 megs in the mailbox at once.

I'd have to have pieces of it sent then I would have to detach the file then delete the email..kind of a long process and I don't think he would want to screw around with that.

I have an idea on how to FTP even if you don't have FTP and your FTP port is blocked, do it via file manager on cPanel (I can create a temporary 60MB account for you)

I can setup the test account a little later (my work firewall blocks port 2082 every now and then) but it's very easy:

1) Your friend goes to http://www.hostforfree.net/cpanel logs in with the username and password I will provide you with later
2) Click File Manager
3) Click on the public_html folder icon
4) Click upload file
5) Click browse
6) Your friend locates the file(s) on their hard drive they wish to upload, select them then click ok
7) Click upload and wait for uploading
8) You download from a remote location the URL will be http://www.hostforfree.net/~username/filename.ext

Once I access cPanel again I will create an account for you and PM the login details to you. This method does NOT require FTP or even access to the FTP port.

There are two things that I would try, one try to compress the file(s) into winace or winrar format and have them split up into partiotions of 1.34 Megs (exactly one floppy disk). Or another simple solution is to try and just burn it, if you dont have a burner then the next thing that I would suggest is to upload it to a company webserver as I do often
