someone guide me in putting subs for car!

im planning to put subwoofers in my car because i got an enclosed case with 2 subs with 4 ports (air holes) for free. it was given to me by one of my brothers friends because he's moving to some place and he had a spare one. i then put the subs aside in a closet for about a few months. now i want to put it in my car and i have no idea where to begin or what to do. my brothers friend is gone, i shouldve asked him what to do before he left =/ can anyone give me a simple guide on what to do or anything, where to begin. i have only the subs, nothing else. help !

Well you need an amp to power the subs. Depending on the headunit you have, you can connect the amp using the RCA outputs.


First thing you should do is find out how many watts the subs are, then match an amp to them.

You will need an amp to power the subs and the wiring to power the amp. Once you do that, you connect the speaker out wires from the amp to the speaker in on the subs. You will need a long pair of RCA cables to connect the CD player line out to the to the amps line in.

Buy an amplifier, make sure you have a cd player with RCA outputs (or if using factory stereo, there are kits you can buy to wire in the amplifier). Hook up wires where they go, power goes straight to battery (pref. with a fuse between) and there is usually a cut-on/off cable that wires into the cd player's on/off cable. The ground goes to any metal groundable part on the car. The RCA cable goes to the cd player, only one place it can go..so that's not hard.

Make sure you don't buy a crap amp or even good speakers can sound like hell.

the watts are:
750 Watts Peak power, 250 Watts RMS

based on crutchfield's:
i think imma go with all bass for the 2 subs so 4 channel mono should do.
i think my headunit does have RCA outputs. im not sure because the car came with this headunit, its a sony xplod with xm radio and cd player.

i still dont know which kind of amplifier to get:

how much ohms should i use?
would any amp do just fine? or is there a brand name u guys reccomend?

mono is a single channel.

But, you will need a 2 channel stereo class a/b amp to do the subs, or a mono class D amp to power them.

put about 400 watts to them should be plenty, i would reccomend an amp, but i do not know the voice coil config's of the subs, if you can tell us the make and model we could help you more.

you also will be needing an amp install kit. knukonceptz.com and look at their 8 guage 2 channel amp install kit, should be like 25$ and has everything you will need in terms of wire.

its a cheap Jensen XS-2100BP. the only information i can find on this is here.
i also dont know what kind of voice coil i have. if you can tell me how to spot the kind of voice coil, i can check on the bass itself.

so atm i will need the following right?

a mono class d amp (about 400watts?)
amp install kit

any reccomendation of brand name?

How much are you willing to spend on an amplifier? Are you going to care whether or not it's great sound quality or do you just want the bump? There are tons of amplifiers out there...

But try looking at www.cardomain.com and www.onlinecarstereo.com for good deals. www.ikesound.com also has outrageous deals, you should try them first.
