Here's my situation...

I don't know how EXP points work.. I've played almost 250 matches non custom and now I'm to the point where I'm hardly even getting an experience point per 5 games.. at this rate it will take forever to level up. What the hell gives? Are people really that lifeless that they play this shit 24/7 to rank up where they are? I mean I'm a gunnery sergeant, that's not too bad.

In addition.. Can anyone tell me why I always waste more bullets into my enemy, then beat him down and he gets the kill for beating me down? Makes no sense and it happens 90% of the time... Something is not right here. They just come straight at me and slam me when I've definitely wasted way more bullets in them and also I'm pretty sure I beat them down first cause I see the animation and I hear the noise.

Thanks for any help!

If you play lone wolves and end up in the top 3, you will get an EXP point. I've found that playing lone wolves is pretty much the easiest way to get EXP. But you only get EXP points in team slayer if you win.

You know if Team Doubles is still guaranteed EXP as long as you get a kill?

you probably just aren't playing smart in all honesty.

also the melee system is pretty broken in Halo 3. Apparentlyif there is a melee stalemate, whoever has less health will die every time.

so to counter that, when running into melee, back up as soon as you see them start to come at you and continue to fire. i've done this plenty of times where they will melee and miss and i'll continue to use my BR.

also just know what weapons to use. if you have the AR and are going up against someone w/a BR at midrange, run away and try to find cover. on the opposite note, don't use the BR if you are at short range battle because it will lose against the AR at close range.

also don't try to be a hero. if you see someone has a better weapon than you and you guys are in a duel, and chances are in favor that you will die, then just run and find someone else. if he has the sniper accross the map and you are trying to pick him off with an AR or BR, just run away cause chances are you won't kill him. similar if you have a needler or something against someone w/a sword in close quarters. just run away.

all in all i'd just say learn to play smarter. also don't play team games w/random people. i was never big on rumble pit in halo 2 because I really don't like FFA's because its basically a kill stealing match, but I find that Lone Wolf is better than the FFA in Halo 2 because there are only 5 players as oppose to 8. It leaves a lot of 1v1 confrontations w/out people stealing kills (although of course kill stealing still goes on). My highest skill is in lone wolf but mainly becausee I only play team games when i have friends on. I prefer team games in general.

According to this guy, thats not correct. Unless I'm just not understanding what a hopper is :)

How exactly does EXP increase?
If you are in the top 49% of any hopper game, ranked or unranked, you will get XP. If there are 16 people you just need to be number 8 or higher.

How do you gain EXP the fastest?
Play in all the hoppers, ranked and unranked. Even unranked hoppers have an invisible ?skill? to keep you from picking on newbs. If you spread out your gaming you can get XP from the lower levels of all hoppers.

On Solo Slayer, is it based on getting in top X place?
Top 49%

Does Ranked VS Matchmaking make any difference in gaining EXP?
No, but at the higher officer levels you need to have corresponding skill levels to ?rank? up. Otherwise you could have a 2000 XP, but since you?re below 10 in highest skill you might be some lieutenant still or something.

First and foremost, you need to learn the maps and spawn points of every weapon if you haven't already. Figure out the fastest and safest ways to get from one key point to another on the maps. Starting a multiplayer game where you are the only one in the game is a great way to wander around and figure all of this out.

Second, you need to learn the best strats to use with each weapon. Figure out combinations of weapons that work well. Figure out where the best places are for you to be on a map if you have certain weapons (i.e. you do not want to be caught in a location where long range weapons are paramount and you don't have a long range weapon.)

Lastly, you want to learn where most players will commonly run to and fight on each map and you also want to get familiar with what kinds of weapons they are using in that area of the map. In most games, you will find that most players will run and fight in the same locations in the same way. Figure out where those locations are, how people commonly fight in them, and then think about the best way to counter that common way of fighting. For example, maybe there is a location on a somewhat open map where everyone is always rushing to and fighting mid/close range. If that is the case then consider getting a sniper rifle and picking those guys off from a distance where you will be ignored for the most part.

There is much more to tell, but that is a good start.

you are only in the top 49% of any team game if your team wins.

so chrisg22 is right :p

I've noticed this a bit...I feel like MP in this game is broken. Grenades are too weak, guns are too weak (except some overpowered ones), melee is awkware, the game has too much lag (on a 10mbps download, 1mpbs upload connection), and matchmaking just sucks. It takes too long to get into a good game. I still think Halo 1 had it down right, but they've messed it up too much.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. I still play the game regardless of that. Follow everyone's advice and play it smart. Find out what works best for you in each situation. Melee might not be your thing, or maybe you just need practice.

I don't think it's that bad. My only gripe is are the objective based games such as CTF, Territories, Bomb, etc. I really dislike how they set them up, but that is just personal preference. I used to play Halo 1 making my own custom matches that were objective based and I had so much fun. Now, it is more about racing the clock than it is about strategy.

You have gripes about the rules? Make your own gametypes! :D

I really have no problem with any of the game with the exception that sometimes I think I'm better than I am and end up losing terribly in certain games...

I think they've done a great job with the multiplayer. Grenades do plenty of damage, if it only hits your enemy with a bit of the blast, you can still easily take them down with your guns. Gun/Melee is probably my primary way to take people down... maybe that makes for a higher KD ratio, but whatever, I love pounding people in the face with the butt of my gun, or cracking them over the skull with my rocket launcher.

I've played over 80 matches, and can count on one hand how many times I've felt I waited "too long" to join a game. As for Lag? I'm playing on a Comcast cable modem with no extra money spent to get faster speeds. Halo 3 bitches at me that my NAT is not open, yet I can, again, count on one hand out of those 80 matches, that I've had any real lag issues.

I would but I usually don't spend several hours at a time playing unless I go over to a friend's house and I don't have this huge list of friends on live where I can invite a ton of people for a custom match all in 5 min of time. It's not a big deal though. The team slayer stuff is still fun. I am just surprised that Bungie figured that the objective game rules that they chose are considered to be the most fun by the majority of players. That or they really are not viewed that way and Bungie got it wrong. I'm not sure. It doesn't matter much to me either.

But what is that top 49% based on? You can easily be the #1 guy in the game in terms of points or kills and still have your team lose if your team sucks.

if your team loses, you aren't in the top 49% :)

when the match is done it lists the people's in name from top to bottom, #1 to #8.
