i've been using outlook express for a long time, and hear a lot of good things about the outlook... i have office XP, but choose not to install outlook because the one time i did install it, seemed like too much trouble to just use for email. what are some great features of it that should make me want to use it?

If you just want it for e-mal don't bother. It is much slower and its a very bloated program. Takes a long time to fire up etc. and doesn't really offer anything over outlook express for e-mail only.

It does have calendar, contacts and to do lists that conveniently sync to my palm though.

if you are just using it to check email, Outlook Express is probably better.

Outlook does have a calender... i use that to schedule my tutorials and lectures... and when to hand in my assignments... ;)

I like Outlook at work because of the way it lists contacts but I like Outlook Express at home.

ah, so best time to use it would be if i ever get around to getting a PDA... i gotcha.

i never put in my contacts because i'm constantly reformatting messing around w/ stuff and changing OS's as i study for my MCSE... i suppose if i ever "settled down" on win2k pro it would make more sense.

The calendar and appointments features are pretty handy. I use the appointments thing quite a bit at work.

You can set up outlook to give you popup messages 20 minutes before you have a meeting so you don't forget about it. Or, you can set it up to remind you about your wifes birthday or your anniversary :)

<< Well, "Mark All as Read" for one thing. >>

Umm... CTRL-SHIFT-A does the same thing in Outlook Express :)

You can switch to Eudora. Even in sponsored mode you can do more with this program than with OE ;)
