This will be the second or third time this has happened. My package will be scheduled for delivery and according to tracking, be put on the truck to be delivered and then it isn't.

The status goes from "out for delivery" to "in transit" and I assume it goes right back to the warehouse to sit - because it sure isn't at my place. Why even put it on the truck if you're not going to deliver it?

It's because the driver is a fat lazy SOB and doesn't want to walk up the stairs to your apartment. I had this happen to me for a whole year. Every time I would call to complain about the driver but nothing ever got done. I even talked to one of the managers and nothing.

Finally one of the times I was there at the pickup facility to get my package one of the head managers overheard me bitching to one of the underling managers and he assured me the driver would be reprimanded and had the driver changed to a different route and I got a new driver. No problems since.

It's possible that it took longer to deliver everything on the truck than expected, and there wasn't time for it to be delivered.

This is what I would assume. They have to be back by a certain time and maybe there wasn't time to deliver your package. I bet it gets delivered early in the route tomorrow since it wasn't today though.

UPS ground is guaranteed in X amount of days from zip to zip. If it didnt get delivered on time, call them and request a refund. If it was coming early and then didnt get delivered, then you have no gripe.

Honestly, I think that's incorrect. UPS, especially Ground, is not guaranteed.

Actually, it is correct. Try http://www.ups.com and see for yourself.

Proof:

See how it says "Guaranteed by" :)

Yeah, like UPS guarantees anything. To rebut your statement (because I'm intoxicated, normally I wouldn't), it's up to the Shipper, not the consignee to request a refund. I've tried with online stores to do so but nothing has ever become of it. They'll think of an excuse to get out of the refund. Gotta love UPS.

My neighbor is a UPS driver. He works 11-12 hour days. Yes, they are supposed to be back to the yard by a certain time, but when they're heavily loaded, it often doesn't happen.
I've had packages delivered much later than I'd have expected. One day, the tracking showed it on the truck, the truck drove by my house delivering in the subdivision...(fucker...where's my package?) About 7 p.m. he showed up and told me he KNEW there was one in the truck for me, but couldn't find it when he was here earlier. He delivered it on his way back to the UPS facility.

So the buyer requests a refund for shipping costs and the shipper requests a refund from UPS. I know Newegg will do refunds, especially if you chose an expedited service when you purchased your item.

Trust me, I've tried, especially with Overstock.com. It seems, without proper details, that the shipment went UPS ground.

My dad was a driver for 30 years. Working long days is pretty common, especially around big shipping days. UPS gets shit from everyone, but the volume they handle and the amount of work the employees put in is ridiculous.

Whether you get your refund or not is besides the point. The fact remains that UPS guarantees their shipments to be delivered by a certain day, even Ground (as evidenced on their website and by my screenshot). You said "UPS, especially Ground, is not guaranteed" and that was incorrect and untrue. You aren't rebutting my statement, you are introducing an entirely new topic about receiving a refund for a late delivery.

Whether UPS backs up their guarantee or not, is a different issue. Yes, it is up to the shipper to file for the refund and in turn refund you. If the shipper doesn't do its due diligence in filing a claim, that is hardly UPS' fault.

At my uncle's warehouse, we shipped out over 150 UPS packages a day. If packages were delivered late and it wasn't weather related, we got a refund on our monthly statement. All it took was a simple form to be faxed. That was 10+ years ago, I am sure they have some sort of online form now.

If this happens frequently, it could just be the particular route you're stuck on. For instance, if your driver has 200 stops to make that are far apart, etc... It's gonna take him longer to deliver everything and make it to you on the route.

Some folks get lucky and end up with a few retailers near them...then half of the truck gets unloaded in one or two stops.

I work customer service for an online retailer.
All of the shippers have their issues, and sometimes shit happens, but UPS is pretty much the best out of the bunch overall
Also, if a package is delivered later than WE promise, you can get a refund for whatever shipping was.

Exactly. I know we throw about 30k packages per day at them and very rarely have problems.

Sometimes a package is misloaded onto the improper truck and depending how far away the other route is it may have to get sent back. Each truck carries a number at the hub, the package is sorted by truck number. The person that loads the truck just uses the shelf number.

Because you are th elittle man and they are a big company. You spent how much to send one package compared to thousands of items sent daily, and th emillions of $$$ they make. That is why you do not matter, as fro trying to get a refund, Hiilery had a better chance of becoming the President...
