someone explain this to me.

I don't frequent the P&N forum. I'm actually quite apathetic regarding politics.

However, I'm watching CNN this morning and they start doing a story on "United States getting ready for covert mission in Iran?"

How retarded is the media? Its not covert if they are reporting on it!

I don't understand it.

It's covert because there has been no declaration of war.

Youre an idiot Dave.

Per dictionary.com:
concealed; secret; disguised.
concealment or disguise.

"The White House did not comment on the article. And one administration official, who asked not to be identified, dismissed the piece: "We've declined comment on Hersh's quarterly articles. You can almost tell time by them."

The only secret the media has been able to keep lately are the MRSA and VRE outbreaks among certain compulsive populations. A few stories slipped out and then the locks were pu on it ever since.

There is no capital, political or logistical, that could support such an operation. Utter BS.

Good point. Im not sure why the MRSA issue isnt really addressed. Talk to anyone in the healthcare field about MRSA and a shudder of horror appears on their face. Its no joke, and the spread of it in the last 5 years is over 1000%.

Anyhow, kinda OT. Just wanted to point it out as my family has been affected by it.

For all the GWB&co bleating on a war on terror, they have been sponsoring terrorists groups that attack Iran for many years. And in the case of Cheney and Rumsfeld, they were some of people, in past administrations, who did not stop at mere terrorists groups, and instead helped sic the entire country of Iraq on Iran.

But if I hypothetically give you, *NightDarker, fair warning that I will soon be doing all kinds of mean, nasty, unethical, sneaky, and reprehensible things to you, it may not really give you all that much information, because you still have still have no real idea on exactly what "Covert" means I might use. But a smarter Lemon Law would give you no warning or threat at all, and instead go forth and do these mean, nasty, sneaky, unethical, and reprehensible things without giving you fair warning at all.

* Of course my disclaimer is that I have no idea of what undisclosed location NightDark is posting from, I assume the moderators of this forum will protect NightDarks secret identity from my non existent efforts to discover that secret identity, and any implication of a threat I have made is only for illustrative posting purposes only. Because even if I knew your identity and location, I have no hostility towards you and would not use unethical means anyway.

Sadly, the same can not be said of international politics in general and GWB&co specifically. And what is also missing, is any sort of the context in which that report of covert action being imminent was made from. Because many journalists do have sources that will let them know that such action is being planned. And by journalistic ethics, once they get a certain level of multisource confirmation, they will go to print. If it comes from a blogger, no rules apply, and a mere overactive imagination is sufficient. But if GWB is somewhat leaking it as a policy decision, it puts Iran on notice that they will pay a price for daring to defy the will of GWB&co. And because the actual consequences are covert, unless Iran can prove GWB&co. were the culprits, they must suffer in silence failing excellent proof.

And Butterbean does it folks! He takes a story about a military strike on Iran, makes a pivot, followed by a triple lutz, and somehow ends up talking about how much he hates gay people!

I for one am just glad to have witnessed this event.

Oh, and yeah, we should definitely believe 'anonymous administration officials'.

I didn't get it until it was pointed out either (I usually skip the idiot's posts), but he's referring to the "MRSA and VRE outbreaks among certain compulsive populations" (aka rampantly orgiastic homosexuals). What this has to do with Iran is anyone's guess.

'certain compulsive populations',

If you click the link you'll see that the article starts off by talking about how these infections are becoming more prevalent among the gay population of the SF Bay area.

And yeah, I'm certain that's why he posted it. This is Butterbean remember.

EDIT: I definitely think the topic warrants discussion, drug resistant bacteria is scary stuff and I'm sorry to hear your family's had trouble with it. But... well... yeah.

I think it has more to do with how it's slipped into a thread that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. He certainly is, er, colorful.

What does it matter if it's true or not? I was just commenting on Butterbean's obsession with homosexuality and how he's able to bring gay people into a thread about attacking Iran.

I don't either.

We seem of country of blabber mouths at the least.

I've given up hoping the MSM would use some discretion in broadcasting this type stuff, but still government officials should know better than leak this kind of info.

On the other hand, it happens so often that I doubt anyone is paying much attention. I certainly don't give it much credence.

I also wouldn't be surprised that it was leaked with the intention of keeping Iran nervous. You never can tell, been done before.

butterbean, once again, for the moronic post of the week - and it's only Monday

MRSA, btw, has nothing to do with the gay community, gay people, or SF in general - and it's been 'in the news' for several years now idiot.

We can usually believe that they said what they're quoted as saying. But the question is whether to believe they're telling the truth or lying. They refuse attribution for a reason.

One reason is when they're telling the truth but leaking for some reason and don't want attribution. This is usually over some rivalry or disagreement or politics, and it can shed light on some things for the public. Other times it's a planned leak to mislead the public, get the debate going in a direction, float a trial ballon, etc.

1. It's not limited to the gay community by any means.

2. If he mentions them call them 'the gay community', not 'certain compulsive populations'.
