That's true... I've seen both types of BIN auctions (where the BIN disappears and where it doesn't.) I've never listed a BIN auction, so I can only presume it's something you set up when listing.

I too would think there are circumstances where you can cancel an auction. I'm not sure of if that would qualify, or if he'd have to pay the fees anyway.

Either way, he still should've responded to you email... But I wouldn't (and I'm sure you haven't) lose any sleep over it.
You have to place a reserve on an auction if you want the BIN to stick around for awhile. I would like for ebay to have an option to leave the BIN to a certain price point or end of auction without having to use a reserve.
