Ok, so in the past I've bought 1 whole item off Egay so I don't have much experience with the slobering idiots that call themselves Ebay users.

Here's the situation. 22 hours left in an auction with no reserve. Price is 250. Some idiot bids it up to $315. Why the fvck would you do that? 4 minutes later some othe flaming jackass bids it up to 340, and then immediately ups his bid to $350. FVCKING WHY? 40 minutes later some other incompetent moron matches the $350 bit. WHY WHY WHY?????

It's almost as if these idiots are trying to assure that they pay the highest price possible. Has nobody informed these mensa candidates that an item for a low price is better than the same item for a higher price? Is there a logic behind this that I'm just not getting? Obviously you need a handful of idiots for Ebay to attract sellers and work but this is just stupid.

When I start selling I'll love these mouth breathers like my long lost children but as a buy I just keep wishing I could figure out a way to stab them in the face through my computer. *sigh*

I kind of figured that must be it. Even so, do people not understand that proxy bidding is not a good thing for them? If you can't figure out that proxy bidding is there only to help Ebay make more money by means of helping the seller get more then how are you smart enough to make your way onto the internet to begin with?

I'm pretty sure the proxy bidding is done by the seller so that HE makes more money. Solution: don't buy crap like that on ebay.

Yes, the seller makes more money and Ebay benifits from that. Correct me if I'm wrong but :

1) Ebay gets a percentage of the final sale price.
2) Proxy bidding is a bidding feature set up and supported by Ebay.

2+2=___

Yes, I've bought two whole items off Ebay in the two or so years I've been registered. One item I bid on and won. The other I just purchased the other day through "buy it now". I will be selling shortly but have yet to sell anything.

Don't worry about the seller fees; although, just to let you know, it's two-fold. When you list an item for sale, you're charged a fee. If that item sells, you're charged another fee. Best of luck with your forays on eBay. When you're selling, you'll prolly realize (as I did) -- where the hech are those idiot buyers?! :)

Ebat wasn't like a few yrs ago....you can actually get the cheapest stuff on Ebay now.
Ebayers have gotten smarter but there are still idiots out there.

This last time I encountered a real idiot.
Someone was selling a used set of 6x9 Infinity for $50 buy-it-now.
He said he will charges exact shipping.
Hes local so I emailed the guy if I can pick it up if I win, he said maybe if he can arrange it.

So I bid and the buy-it-now disappeared.
Instead of waiting a =nd save a few buck, I emailed him telling him I'll pay the $50 and I'll pick it up.
He didn't reply so it ended up selling for $45.
What an idiot, now, he has to pay Ebay fee, Paypal fee, take time to ship the thing, hoping it would get there, etc....

I don't understand, if you wanted to have it right away and were willing to pay $50, why didn't you use BIN? As soon as you placed a bid he was obligated to the ebay fees and such, paypal fees only if that is what you wanted to use...

I've bought and sold plenty of things on eBay. Haven't run into a problem.

Proxy bidding is setup so that you don't have to constantly monitor the auction you are bidding on. Plus, it's incredibly easy.

Case in point, three books that I purchased for my son. Combined with the shipping costs, I figured $13 would be a good deal, and that would be the most I'd pay. I set that as my highest bid, and proxy bidding took care of the rest. Other people bid, and my bids upped automatically. Two days later I find that I have won the auction and spend a whopping $12.25 shipped for three books (that retail for $8 each.)

Now, w/out proxy bidding, I would've had to visit that auction over and over to ensure I wasn't getting outbid.

What's the downside???

1) at first I wanted to get it cheaper than $50
2) I didn't know the BIN would disappear as soon as I bid
3) He could have ended the auction right there and we both could have a mutual withdrawal so no Paypal fee.

Then I didn't want to wait another 6+ days for it to end to save a few dollars so I made him the offer.

I still don't know what he was thinking.....I offered to pay him his BIN and no answer from him. Yes he did get my email cause he answered the 1st email I sent to him.

Once you bid, and the BIN disappeared, it's not like he can reinstate it. Nor can he close the auction, once the bid has been placed. And for him to deny the winner the speakers, because you offered more, certainly wouldn't have been fair.

OK, that make a little more sense.

I've seen there are auctions where people bid and the BIN is still there to end at any time.
Don't Ebay give you the option to end at anytime under certain circumstances ??

I love watching idiots in action LIVE in public internet areas. They get all excited because some 8000 dollar item is "only" 12.95 with 8 days left! Surely nobody will bid on it in 8 days!

It hurts the soul!

That's true... I've seen both types of BIN auctions (where the BIN disappears and where it doesn't.) I've never listed a BIN auction, so I can only presume it's something you set up when listing.

I too would think there are circumstances where you can cancel an auction. I'm not sure of if that would qualify, or if he'd have to pay the fees anyway.

Either way, he still should've responded to you email... But I wouldn't (and I'm sure you haven't) lose any sleep over it.

Unless it is within 12hrs to the auction closing and there is a winning bid, the seller can end an auction early, either cancelling all bids or selling to the highest bidder at that time.

First, how do I know as a seller that the price won't go higher than $50? There have been lots of times when the price goes above the BIN price (which is removed once you placed a bid). He should have answered your email but if it is an auction, I always let it run its course because you may get a late sniper at the end to bump the price even higher than the $45.
The paypal thing is easy. To even have a chance with paypal, you can't do an off ebay transaction. You must ship with a online trackable number to preferably a confirmed addy. Local pickups do not qualify and the buyer in theory can claim non-receipt of item and the seller is SOL. I would do local pickups only in cash.

who knows. I can't go into the minds of someone that does that. Perhaps he is only willing to pay $13+shipping. It's free and only takes a few minutes and they have nothing to lose and a very small but unlikely chance of winning. You never know with an auction. The site could go down intermittenly (without Ebay extending your auction). The seller can accidentally end the auction. Or sometimes people bid to "track" the item with the intention of bidding on it later and not having to search for it again. Who knows.
Anyway, on a very popular item, that is what I do, set the auction for 7 days and start at a penny.

You couldn't be more wrong. They actually THINK that they can win the item at a certain low price. I always start at 1 penny and run 3 day auctions and end up selling stuff for exactly what it goes for regularly. 7-10 day auctions just aint worth it unless its a unique item or worth a whole lot.
