The fragile cannot endure
The wrecked and the jaded a place so impure
The static of this cruel world
Cause some birds to fly long before they've seen their day
Long before they've seen their day

1st off: CNN is not news.
2nd, if it were then I'd ask you to please find an actual article instead of a video with ads in front of it.
I promise you very few people will watch.
The page in the OP went straight to video, no ads. But I run AdBlock and No Script.

OK, the ad was part of the video.

And I already had Adblock running.
Just setup No Script. Now nothing loads on CNN's page.

So I had an ad, and I rarely watch video clips as news, as I'd much rather just read an article.

However, since I did decide to watch this one:

WTF
?

1000 dead birds? That's really not that many. That's probably like a rate of 1 or 2 birds per acre.

This article has an estimate of 4000-5000.

Still, geographically limited, and all those birds? The possible causes they list really make zero sense in my head, because I've never even heard of something like this. All the causes they list are fairly common events the world over, and I've never heard of thousands of birds (of the same species it appears, for the most part) simply falling dead in a small geographical zone all in a single night.

Probably will be a simple explanation, considering there aren't many things that are all that "woah" anymore, but I find it extremely interesting nonetheless.

1st off: CNN is not news.

I've heard this said of Fox "News", but never of CNN.

People from most of Latin America, including neighboring Mexico and Central America, traditionally mark New Year's Eve by setting off fireworks for as long as possible -- a noisy celebration that might well have blasted the single flock of birds straight out of their roost.

Of the almost 310 million Americans, about 40 million are of Hispanic culture, and millions more Latin Americans live in the United States illegally.

This had me WTF. The neighborhood where I grew up was predominantly black. They shot off fireworks and guns on New Years. The neighborhood I live in as an adult is primarily white, there were guns and fireworks going off. My family (which consists of immigrated from Mexico, 1st and 2nd gen adults and children) has been known to light fireworks.

I don't understand why they felt the need to point out that one particular ethnic group blows shit up when others do the same as well.

Yeah that's even more WTF.
Fireworks happen the world over, and have absolutely nothing to do with ethnic/racial identity. Hell, it was the Chinese who started that shit thousands of years ago.

I'm as white as can be, a European mutt, and absolutely love setting off fireworks.

Whoa. The lack of concern is freaking me out. "The city's going to do some testing on Monday." Tell you what, if birds start falling out of the sky here, I'm going to start rounding up oxygen masks and hazard suits.

Tomorrow, we find out half of this little nobody-heard-of-it town has fallen dead.
Next week, the state of Arkansas is under federal quarantine.
A week after that, a few of us are taking up arms against the zombie horde.

Shit, I really need to go but the zombie survival guide and finally get a rifle or something. Personally, I kind of like the crossbow. Need to find a semi-automatic crossbow with a magazine, that would be sweet.

When I was in Iraq every single bird in Fallujah died, woke up one day and while walking around all these dead birds were laying everywhere. One day birds everywhere, next day they're all dead.

They try to convince us not to worry about it, but I'm sure birds just don't up and die in large quantities like that.

You know, I wonder if it has anything to do with the polar reversal.
There's already been multiple small pockets of polar reversal, as the field is slowly growing a little more instable. I wonder if changes that aren't strong enough to cause South to be North on a compass, are enough to cause problems for birds and other creatures that rely on the magnetic field for navigation. They are flying and all of a sudden feel extremely disoriented, perhaps, and then they undergo severe stress and have a lethal heart attack?

No idea if any of that is even possible. That's a layman's theory, a terrible one at that, so I'll leave that up to the bird experts. :)

Anyone want to help me build one of these :)
