somebody told me jumping rope is the best cardio workout there is

I assume by better cardio workout he means it evenly distributes work done by skeletal muscles so no one group tires too quickly and you can get the most work out of your cardiovascular system.

I think running, swimming, and rowing do a much better job. anyone know?
 
Probably. I thought it was cross-country skiing, though.

Running is too narrow....I know cause I run tons and I still get exhausted quickly when swimming laps on rare occasion.
 
cheapest way..without even buying...but i guess u can make a lame jump rope...welll..out of rope lol..but i refer old fashioned jogging...but i guess if dont live in a ok neighborhood to job in ..i guess jump rope is good inside your home..
 
As long as you keep the number of jumps past a certain number (can't remember) jumping rope does burn the most calories.

 
Now why would juming rope be any better at burning calrioes then any other cardiovascular exercise?

That's right, it doesn't. It may have other benefits associated with the exercies, but speaking in strict cardiovascular terms, I don't believe it's any better then running, using an eliptical, bicycling ,etc.
 
in my opinion i believe running or swimming will work out the best for cardio vascular, as that was what i have been told. by several gym trainers. skiing and all that stuff sounds too hectic for exercise...

but is this cause your muscles aren't in shape for it. I run a ton and my arms get tired when I row, but I don't feel like I am breathing very hard.

That doesn't make any sense either. The most jumps? C'mon now, duration and intensity has EVERYTHING to do with cardio-vascular exercise. But it's not one or the other. A quick 10sec sprint isn't going to burn as many kcals as a 30-minute jog. Nor, is "300 jump ropes" done in, say, an hour going to burn more kcals then a steady 20-minute jump rope.
 
jump roping is a very good workout. I don't know why, but I hear it all the time. running, xc skiing and swimming, as stated, are also extremely good workouts. I think swimming is the most intense, as, like Pellinor, I can run all day and all night, but I can't swim more than a couple laps before being thoroughly exhausted.

2+ hours straight of hard biking with very little rest (just a couple of minutes at most) really kills me, but feels so awesome.
