Why would a thief burn a car after they strip it? That just screams insurance fraud to me.

We replaced it with a Xterra, so eat shit.
What does your choice of vehicle have to do with it? And why so testy? Did I hit a little too close to home?

Why would someone commit insurance fraud only to replace the vehicle with a slightly newer model? It's not like it's a piece of shit beater that noone would have paid for. I'm sure he could have easily gotten blue book for it had he wanted to get rid of it.
I agree with you, but my ex did insurance claims, and saw this sort of thing all the time. It was amazing what some people did to get out of their cars.
There's no evidence of any such wrongdoing here. Please drop it.

Wow...that sux, but it's why we pay such outrageous insurance premiums.

Not far from where I live is a small town that has a terrible reputation. ANY car that breaks down and gets left on the side of the road gets torched within a matter of hours...especially if it's there overnight.
Of course, I also live in one of the car-theft capitals of the nation, so seeing stolen cars stripped and torched isn't anything new either.
I hope youse guys like the new car, and I REALLY hope she's learned not to leave the car unlocked and running...if only for a minute. Opportunistic car thieves watch for such a chance...and it only takes them a second to jump in and they're gone.

BTW, have you had all your house locks and such rekeyed? If they got those keys, they just might be back to empty the house as well.

Oh, and get a remote start so that you can start the car but it won't go anywhere without the keys.

Oh and one more thing - if I was your insurance I would have told you to suck an egg.

You leave a car running with keys in it unattended...and want someone else to pay for it?

haha!

Yep :) I've got one on my car. The alarm stays armed while the car is on until it's disarmed by me. Also, if someone touches the brake pedal, it'll automatically shut off the car. That and the club I keep on is usually enough to deter thieves.

the club is useless, it takes all of a few seconds to saw through the steering wheel

I had been running back into the house with the car (no full coverage) running in my driveway for less than a minute and even then I hurried my ass back out there. Sucks that this happened but it's a big risk regardless.

On my new X5 I have 'comfort access' which is keyless lock/unlock/engine start. The keys never come out of my pocket. I can run back into the house and because the keys aren't detected inside the car anymore, nobody will be able to shift it out of park. Pretty cool feature. It can also be locked and left running if I wanted.

crazy store, really suprised insurance paid for it considering she not only left the keys in it but left it running, how did you get around that? I am confused, did they steal it from your driveway or did it get stolen from the convenience store while she went in wtfff

Yes but it deters the lazy thieves at least. If someone really wants to get your car, they're going to get it no matter what.
