I have

Athlon 1700+@1660Mhz
a7n8x-deluxe -rev2 mobo
asus 48/16/48 CDRW
Samsung sp0802N(7200 RPM, ATA133)
Antec sonata 380 watt

I have installed HDD as primary master and CDRW as secondary master. There is no CDROM drive.

My problem is that cdrw is rtunning very slow.It used to be fast in another system.I tried to change its mode in the properties of secondary IDE channel from PIO to DMA but even though the choice registers, the mode remains PIO.

What may be the reason? Can you tell me Doc?

What OS are you using?

If XP then go into Device Manager and check the Secondary IDE. If it says PIO then choose Use DMA mode if available. It should set it to Ultra DMA mode 2.

You did install the lastest NF2 driver from NVIDIA didn't you?

Thaks guys,

I tried to change the setting from pio to DMA if available. But the system didnt take the setting.Probably it is something to do with drivers.I havent yet updated my drivers. It is the drivers from the CD that I am using

There are no drivers for optical drives. The IDE drivers should be microsoft. If you haven't downloaded the NForce2 drivers from Nvidia, you should do so.

I deleted the secondary channel and rebooted and bingo! it worked. But in my case there was little consolation because my CDRW kept on giving errors.Probably some prob with the drive.

Perhaps you need to use an 80 pin IDE cable instead of a 40 pin, or vice versa?
