Some tips on Battlefield 2 PLEASE

i need some insights on this game. i've had the game for a little more than a month right now and i JUST RECENTLY picked up on the fact that you could switch between burst mode and auto (or semi auto).

i used to get the 1 bullet shot with the rifle and i had no idea why that happened, i thought it was my mouse acting up, or that for some reason EA implemented a simulation of a rifle jamming time to time.

anyways, i then realized you were able to switch modes, and i never figured out how i did it, and finally i realized you simply press 3 (if you set the rifle to 3) and it'll change each time you change it to rifle while it's already at rifle.

ANYWAYS,

i see some people being able to roll around on the ground when they're proning.....HOW do you do it??? i've looked through the controls about a dozen times and i just can't see anything that implies you can do it...so how do you do it??

yep, seen it over and over, and i have no idea how they do it... i'm not sure if it's just a feature of the graphic movement, or if it's an actual movement you can do, but it's very useful when you dodge bullets or whatnot, beats the hell out of proning your way out of a gun fire. but just to clarify things, the rolling isn't continuously, i only see them roll one "cycle".

I have seen it too. It looks like it mostly happens like when somebody is running and then suddenly dives sideways into prone position. I haven't figured out how to do it either. Maybe it's just an animation that others see when you dive to prone? Or is there really a way to roll?

The only rolling I know of is if you're strafing and you hit the prone button. You roll but from the first person you don't see your view roll. I don't think you can roll whilst aready prone. Unless you've seen this? Maybe it needs a double tap in either direction. If you're standing upright, a double tap on the forward motion will make you sprint.

no it's just what you see when other people prone.

they see you doing it too.

your first person viewport doesn't roll over though (which is nice...)

I've never seen anyone roll while prone.

I saw something amusing but useful while playing last night - had to follow my squad leader by jump off a building's roof; to avoid taking fall damage, he triggered his parachute (9? 0?) and glided down safely.

The special ops class's C4 is very, very powerful. Very. I've conspired with a teammate to take out a tank by attaching a bunch to a jeep and triggering it just as the teammate barrels it into a tank. :D If closeby, suiciding yourself by running right up to the tank and pulling the trigger works too.

Did you know you can also pick up anyone's kit? If you are curious to see what some of the unlocked weapons are like, if you see an enemy kit on the ground, just stand over top and press G. Can't think of any other useful things that you may need to know off hand..

I play BF2 a lot.

We used to get 6 people in a blackhawk and really rack up team points flying from flag to flag. Because there were so many of us, we could capture flags like crazy, had an engineer in the back fixing the chopper as it got shot and had a medic to help heal the squad. We made many points this way, but with the latest patch, you can no longer do this. They only count neutralize and capture points for the pilot....thus everyone would have to bail out of the chopper or it would have to land...

If you had a good piliot you could just bail out he could float and you can jump and press e to get back in.

That's what we started to do, but the pickup is often tricky and the troops at are much greater risk to get shot when trying to get back in the chopper. The risk isn't too bad on some flags, but others don't offer as much protection so they get sniped a lot easier. I think the last time I hovered while everyone else bailed out, we lost 3 of the 6 in our chopper to enemy fire and there was no one in the blackhawk manning the guns to fight back.

errr i hated you people. I AM SO GLAD that they decided to fix this exploit. We as infrantry units woudl have to work SO hard to get a flag and then you can fly over it for like 2 secs and get it. Since when does hovering over a flag count as control....well..not anymore.

That is the only time I have seen people roll, when strafing and then going prone. And you are confirming what I suspected. It is just an animation that other players see when you do this. You can't actually roll.

I do this all the time too. I wouldn't be surprised if they nerf this in some future patch making it possible to deploy your chute only after you have bailed out of a plane or chopper. It is a big time saver though when you need to get down from someplace high up in a hurry.

Yep me too and I won't be surprised either if they remove it!

That is why you keep the gunners in the BH. It's a killing machine. They will get enough points on kills they don't need the flag cap points.

As far as rolling while going prone, you have to hit left or right when you press the prone button. You won't really notice anything different on your end, though the screen will "bounce" a bit while rolling.

Another tip, keep your squad leader alive, they are mobile spawn points. If he dies, find a medic kit near, swap into it, revive him, drop some health packs and get your kit back. If he's medic kit, take his kit, revive him, and go. You can't get your kit back because when you revive him, he'll take your kit since his isn't there, but he doesn't have to re-spawn at the set points, and you can keep spawning on him.

Agreed. It annoys me when people don't squad up. Squads make things a lot more manageable for the commander plus allows for more localised thought (squadleader assess situation and requests supplies/artil/whatever from the commander).

I wish people would spot more as it effectively makes for a map of enemy positions.
It's a great game overall, but only when people use their brains and work together.

F1-F6 to switch positions in a vehicle. kind of useful.

9 to parachute, but it doesnt work for me sometimes if i press it once... so now when i jump i just jam the 9 key.

if you see a dead medic, pick up his kit (G) and revive him, he will automatically take your old kit.

if you spot an enemy (red name above him), press Q and then click to transmit it to everyone. is quick and good info for all, and it will also be on the radar for awhile even if they go around a corner, etc.

that said, my scores are pretty bad in this game.

If the parachute "hits" anything it'll fail, ie you have to re-deploy it. If you're in the middle of a bail out it's no biggie. If you are jumping off a building (especially those angled walls), sometimes the parachte hits varisous objects, like the wall, and fails.

I will also confirm that the roll is just an animation for others, though it does make you a little hard to hit. Changing kits is a fun way to check out new weapons. That helped me pick the 4 unlocks I have chosen so far.

Personally my fav kits are AT, Medic, SF, and recently, support. The SF is a great kit to start with as the gun is accurate, you have nades, and you have c4. Use that kit to learn the basics, then expand to other kits.

Some little "hints" I have picked up are c4 planting on the base of a flag. The c4 kits sometimes dissapear so the enemy can't see them there. When the come to cap the flag... BOOM!

Suiciding in a jeep is an awesome way to take out armor. As a SF you would have to run up to a tank, attach c4, then detonate. IF the driver is at all aware this is very hard to do. Putting c4 on a humvee, buggy, jeep and then hitting the tank, jumping out and pressing the trigger works very well. One thing to note is that a kill is 2 points and a suicide is -2 points so to make this worth it you need to take out at least 2 people. Or if your only concern is for your team then sacrificing your points them is noble.

I don't have all that many points myself (~7400 global score) but I have only put ~55 hours into it so I am still a "noob" compared to most
