Hi,
I`ve read alot of posts over the last couple of months, that have people complaining about GTa3 not running at various res`s smoothly.
Ive heard of people with XP2000 chips and Ti4600 cards, and they struggle to run GTA3 at 800x600 smoothly.
I found this odd as i have an XP1800&a Ti200@Ti500, and i run at 1280*1024@32bit w/max details/view distance.
Heres the key/s to smoothness in GTA3.
1) FPS is not importent in GTA3. People are continusly trying to get over 60fps. 30fps is more than fine.
2) Make sure trails are off.
3) Make sure V-Sync is off, in game & in the drivers
4) KEEP FRAME LIMITER ON!!!!
no.4 is the most importent.
Remember GTA2, that had frame limiter as well, when it was on, it ran fine, when it was off, the game went into overdrive, seriosly fast, too fast to play.
The frame limiter acts in a similar way in GTA3.
When its off, the fps shoots off to 40+ fps(and it`ll run faster, literally, not the fps), and then, every now and then, it`ll slow back down to 30fps. This makes it seem like the game is stuttering.
If you have it on, it wont do this and will remove almost all of the choppyness and stuttering in the game. The fps will be locked at 30fps +- 2fps, preventing the game from going into overdrive.
Hope this helps you all.
