i just started playing this game and i think its really cool so far. i know its based on DND and i have some basic questions. i dug through the manual, but i can't seem to find a precise answer, and im not to clear about the concepts yet.

is wizard/fighter a bad combination? i heard from some of my friends before that some combinations can be bad because they contrast so greatly. and their weaknesses/strengths conflict.

also, when i detect traps, is there anyway to have my henchman go around the trap? we dont have the disable trap ability, but i can detect them all, i know to go around it, but my henchman always ends up walking right through it.

thanks.

A wizard/fighter is a very bad idea. The problem is that a fighter needs strength and a wizard needs intelligence so you will be a crappy fighter and a crappy wizard if you go that route. You need to be able to disable a trap, you can't avoid it unless you know another way around.

do you think its best to stay just pure wizard, or is there other classes that go along with it well? my wizard is getting whipped everytime somethone hits her hand to hand, even if its a weak person.

Wizard/fighter is fine if you enjoy playing that way, but it's not the power gamer approach. The ultimate weakness is when you hit the level cap, you won't be a very high level wizard so you won't have the highest level spells, which are really the strength of spellcasters. A couple levels of fighter just to get weapon skills, hit points, etc. that only fighter class provides can work and has been done in the past.

Let your henchman eat the damage from floor traps, if he/she dies you can always pick them up conveniently ressurected in town. Altenately pick up a henchman with thieving skills. You should be able to use elemental damage (on an enchanted weapon or from a spell like fireball) to destroy trapped containers, and somehow their contents will survive the blast, appearing a few seconds later in an untrapped cloth sack.

Spellcasters are almost always weak early. Don't be afraid to use whatever spells you have and rest frequently (unless you feel you're exploiting a loophole, which technically it is). Getting through the wimpy levels is just the price of admission for the fun Uber spells you cast later on.
