Can't you just download a midi program that binds your keys to a note? Personally, I would find it annoying if I heard a musical note chime everytime I made a keystroke...
I got a Casio CTK-800 for like 150 from amazon. It works pretty good. I've heard some of the other keyboards in that price range and this one sounds better.
How many keys? I assume you want something that can make sounds on its own; if you just want something to generate MIDI commands (which cause software on your computer or some other device to generate the sounds), you can get a MIDI controller for less. Do you want something with built-in speakers (ugh)?
Edit: I can't recommend any specific model, but there's a bunch of small and "cheap" keyboards here.
