Some quick Digital Camera Advice Please

I have never had a digital camera, I have been looking at the PowerShot SD900, specs look good and I like the size, don't want a SLR.

Anyone know anything about this camera, anything bad about it? Other models or brands that I should consider?

I just got my sister the SD800 IS and she already enjoys it! The current SD lineup is great for a first point and shoot camera, but still has (limited) options.

I'd pick up an SD800IS like Jawo insisted, or the newer version the SD850IS.
Even though these models have less MP than the SD900 they offer better quality pictures because the sensor isn't so packed with pixels.
Another plus is that it comes with IS (Image Stabilization).
