I have 16 ramsinks on the vram and they do get hot under load i est 46-47 c "the sinks prob help a lot.
can these cards take the heat schad? right now im at 423 core 370 ram.
tx for the reply
Stock cooling on my MSI 9800pro with the r360 core, I have it at 396/357. ATI Tool says I can go higher, but artifacts in games (esp. doom3) and 3dmark'03 say otherwise.

that varies from individual card to individual card, try increasing it in 10 mhz incraments untill you find your optimal setting.
Or lower increments if you can, I try about 1.5-2.0 Mhz increments (takes painstakingly forever but it's accurate). I believe your 423/370 is about hitting the limit of air/passive cooling on your card. Try to stress your card by running 3dmark03 loops, doom3 or something that will really push that card to it's limits. If you don't notice any visual artifacts/abnormalities after a couple hours you should be fine. Don't worry too much about overheating the card, if this happens, usually it causes a BSOD or just a soft reboot and the card will cool off very quickly once the stress stops.
I'm using the Rage 3D Tweak proggie. I'm at 415/385. Haven't tried to push it any further cuz I'm playing Doom3 now and it doesn't seem to like OCing. Don't wanna push my luck 😉
I have BBA 9800pro (R350 core) currently running at 420/375 with copper BGA heatsinks and Arctic VGA Silencer rev3. Could probably do more, but I haven't pushed it further yet. Rock solid in Doom3 & FarCry, and on all benchmarking/torture testing.
