Ok, as some of you may or may not be aware, I am in the market for a new motherboard to go with my X1900 XTX. I dont really ever plan to use SLI or Crossfire, but I suppose its a nice thing to have their just in case for an extra £17 or whatever.
I noticed something I hadnt before when reading the review of this particular motherboard. It seems both the A8R32-MVP and A8R32-SLI both have external SATA connections (I think?).
See here, is this an external SATA connection?

Is the red connection a SATA one? This brings me to another question, I have 2 external HDD's, both with SATA capable and USB2.0 connections. Problem with using them with USB2.0 is that they cannot be used as a scratch disk for video editing. Footage cannot be saved straight on to the external HDD like with your master SATA connected drive. Does this mean that if I connect the External HDD to this SATA connection (the red one on the back) instead, I might be able to use it as a scratch disk?
Now for my next question, originally I was going to buy the DFI lanparty UT SLI-D, as I always thought the performance was about neck and neck with the A8R32-SLI, but this Anandtech review of the A8R32-MVP shows the SLI version obliterating the DFI in most benchies. Does that mean the Asus is the better board?
See this review for example, neck and neck mostly
Asus A8R32-SLI Review
Yet Anands findings show the A8R32-SLI beating the DFI in pretty much everything.
Can anyone shed light on this?
Sorry for all the questions, it's just I'm looking to buy on Monday, now I dont know whether to get the DFI, the Asus A8R32-SLI or wait for the MVP version. All I know is that if the scartch disk SATA thing will work, I need to go with the Asus instead of the DFI.
Thanks guys, appreciate you taking the time to read this.
