You really need to set up some security cameras. Have them set up to mail you photos in addition to recording locally.

Agree. Bad move. Don't file a false report. Too many ways to get caught in a lie. Especially if it comes to pass it wasn't the kids you got your wife to say did it. She will be responsible for the lie even though it was your idea. Don't do it.
You need to escalate this ASAP, and you need to talk to the cops who responded to the call yesterday and find out exactly who the fvck told these sh1ts you were the one who made the call.

As screwy a solution as this is, it's probably the best one. I hate to advocate lying or filing a false police report, but this is war and at the end of the day, you need to take care of #1 (and #2).
The police went up to me a few times and asked me questions while the one kid was still outside, so it was obvious it was me... I didnt care, they stored guns on my property, hidden near my house... that alone had me livid...

Unfortunately, just saying you saw them do it might not be enough. It's your word against theirs. And even if you did see them do it, if you don't know their identities or where in the neighborhood they live, the best you can do is describe them to the police who then may or may not find them. . .You mentioned that you or your wife recognized one of the kids as being from your neighborhood possibly? Any idea where he lives or any way to find out? If you are going to get the police involved more, it would be a good start to give them something to go on.

We already know where one of them lives, and so do the police.... The issue is, it could have been one of the kids, or any of their friends.... so trying to identify without seeing them is pointless

I might get motion sensitive lights for around the house to help reassure my wife... but we have a shared walkway that might get setoff a bit.... how hard is it to rig motion sensitive lights to go off and have the doorbell ring to?

It's not that hard, dxkj. Get a large dog, but don't attach too much too it, as it will most probably will get shot. Get some camera's, like 2 fake ones, the ones that are in obvious places and a couple of live ones. Get yourself a (real looking) gun, and if you see them again, confront them with the gun CLEARLY visible. They'll scatter like the rats they are.
