I don't know if anyone is following, but I don't want to Syringer all of you so:

Well, after about 20 calls to my bank and about 10 to paypal, I'm only down 1 transaction and all my excess fees. Still down a total of $564. I got the rest back as of now. What a huge giant pain in my arse. The bank claims the transaction should be back by tomorrow and the other fees should be reversed by next Monday. I've heard all this before. My experience is that about 1 in 8 people on the phone are actually helpful, the rest pretty much don't have a clue what to do (and this includes managers).

For reference, the best way to get this done is to go to your branch and have them call Paypal.

Easier said than done I bet. You should try it to see if you can get your bank and paypal to talk to each other.

Wow your still having to deal with this ? Your bank must suck. Thats why we need a sticky for the banks with the best tech support and having these kind of issues resolved the quickest. It can make a huge difference for a customer.

Yeah, Paypal sucks, no doubt about it. I've been scammed before by someone on Paypal, but since 45 days past before I became aware Paypal wouldn't do anything, not even shut down the scammer's account.

They handle money like a bank, but someone they don't have to act like a bank...

All I have to say is your lucky it was taken from your bank account. If for some reason you had it sitting in your paypal account you would never see it again.

How did they get a hold of your Paypal account. Did you login from one of those fake Paypal emails?

Do you do secured Wifi? What browser?......

For those wondering, it is Washington Mutual Bank. Yes, I will be switching banks after this is all said and done. You'd think more than 3 1/2 weeks would be enough time to straighten this out, especially when both my bank and paypal admitted they were false attempts. The worst part is that I put a stop payment on the 17th and told them to not send any money to paypal no matter what.......on the 23rd they sent 7 transactions to paypal anyway....then on the 24th they credited back only 6 of them. Now they can't get it through their friggin' heads that I need that 7th one back now. I've told them a million times "I had a STOP PAYMENT on my account, how hard is it to get that transaction back that you were never supposed to pay in the first place?!?!"

Do you think you would have gotten better results from your bank if you had gone there in person?

It's hard to say. They seem to have this standard reply of "Ok, well I filed it with our unauthorized access group. They are taking a look and you should see the funds in 3-5 days." If I tell them I want it now they just say "Sorry, that group has to research it first but I'm sure you'll see the money back in your account by xxxx day"

After you close your account, sue them in small claims court. It doesn't cost but $50 or less.

I went through the same thing with them.... Took 3 months to recover my $6,500. I'm still out the $100 in cell phone calls and ~6 hours of time... I use HSBC now for 5.25% interest.

They are incredibly incompetent!

Someone charged $3000 to my dad's paypal account. Luckily he didn't have his bank account on file so it got charged to his American Express card. So even if paypal doesn't refund him he's still not liable.

isn't it possible to put some option on your paypal account to stop someone from charging your paypal account? Evertime i paid someone, i was the one who initiated the transfer, not the other guy

And what would he sue for if all the funds are credited back?

well the second time they tried to take money I actually had a stop pay on my bank account and told my bank, "do not pay any money to paypal no matter what!"......5 days later there are 7 transactions from paypal and they only reverse 6.

I call them up and say "can you explain why I put a stop pay on my account for paypal (which you charged me $20 to do) and yet you still paid money to them?" They say "umm, you didn't put the stop pay in time, it takes 3-5 business days". I told them it was 5 business days......"umm, well...umm...a stop pay doesn't always work when it's electronic transfers like paypal....you'll have to call them"

I had to pull out the Seinfeld rent a car routine "you know how to book the stop pay, but you don't actually stop the payment....and really that's the whole idea of the stop payment."

This is why you should NEVER EVER tie your bank account to Paypal, no matter what. At least with credit-card funds, it's not YOUR money, and credit card companies will try their hardest to get THEIR money, instead of other way around.
Or sign up for a second checking/savings account to use for PayPal only.

That's what I did and it works great.

I asked my credit union to open a 2nd checking account which they did instantly. On my online banking I even nicknamed it *drum roll* PAYPAL */drum roll*.
