Oh, and by the way, regarding this picture What's that one old building on the top of that one hill, with the really steep steps gonig up to it?

I've seen that building a couple times now and it looks like I should check it out. I'm going to have to stop next time.

There's signs saying you're not supposed to go up there, and it's in plain view of the road, otherwise I woulda hiked out there to look before 🙂 I just don't want to come back to a CHP car waiting for me 🙂

I just noticed that pic makes me look like I was headed left-of-center, I think I was cool though.

notfred - do you surf?

I've been thinking I would really be into surfing. I'm a pretty solid snowboarder and skateboarder and it seems like it wouldn't be too hard to pick up. I just don't have the funds at the moment to put into a board and wetsuit. I've already been trying to allocate some funds for a new snowboard for awhile.

Is it worth even renting?

Learning to surf takes a lot of time dedication. Also, the sport isn't really receptive of newbies (Commonly referred to as kooks, or dumbasses) The big yellow Doyle foam board, with "RENTAL" stamped on it doesn't help hide your noob-factor 🙂 If you want to learn, it's going to take take several months (gonig once or twice a week) to be able to look like you have any idea what you're doing. (I'm not trying to be harsh or anything, it's the HARDEST physical activity I've ever tried to learn. Much moreso than snowboarding or skateboarding). It's also highly addicting, though. Far more than ATOT. There are certain rules that are basically assumed that you know them. I'd actually LOVE to talk about it more w/ you (You don't even understand how much I miss it...)

Anyway, equipment: Buy a used board. You can get them for under $250, and you're going to want something different after you start to establish your own style anyway. All serious surfers start getting boards custom shaped for them after they start getting good (if they can afford it) and I guarantee the first board you get isn't gonigt o be what you'd have custom shaped for you a year alter, regardless of what your first board is like. As far as a wetsuit goes, make sure you get a 4/3 fullsuit. The water aroujnd SF isn't warm.

Living near SF, you've got a fairly limited selection of surf spots. Fort Point (DONT GO THERE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING), Ocean Beach, Pacific, Half moon bay. As a beginner, you're going to want to be in Pacifica or Half moon bay to start, unless you want to drive down to santa cruz, but that's kinda far.

PM me, I'd love to discuss it further 🙂

Heh...well that angelfire bandwidth doesn't last too long I guess. I don't really have anywhere else to put them at the mooment though. There's too many for the pic hosting sites.

SWEET.. MERCIFUL... jeeebus. :Q 🙁 :Q 🙁
That looks like sweet back country right off the freakin lift. Whats the mountain? Verticle? Geeeze... (edit: ohhh i see its mammoth AND tahoe... uhm.. how do you do this?) If I wanted to make a serious trip, my options are Quebec... which is the best in the East Coast... or going down towards Vermont, or Jay Peak or something... but either or would take me 5-6 hours in a car. Oh well, gotta do it 😀

notfred, I haven't really surfed, but I'd find it a LOT easier then snowboarding. It took me a good while to be able to learn how to ride hard. Its serious business when you can, and the potential is always there to really, really hurt yourself. (oops) Anyway... I've been taking a few n00bs to the hill and it reminds me how hard it was to get the hang of it. Ontario isn't that great for snowboarding.. I'll have pictures soon of a few trips.

Oh yeah.. and not that waves don't hurt, etc.. but when you bail hard snowboarding you're in big trouble... especially on the hardpack out here.
