Hi guys, thanks for the feedback,
I think in gross I have invested close to US$3000

The Voodoo 5 6000 and Voodoo 5 5000 prototype is already half of the collection price.

From the pictures on ebay, it looked to be in better condition, now that he actually sticked shipping tape all over the box, surely if I remove it, there is going to be some printing pulled out together.

I can show you the listing as how it was advertised before it was shipped

Looks good to me, what you guys think?

anyway, after 3 hours of "self repair" by peeling it slowly, I have manage to get it in a decent condition, but stilled in battered box condition.

Heh, when the seller was described as "a german", 'twas assumed it shipped from Germany not Pennsylvania! Prolly not much saving then and $15 certainly would have exceeded the UPS fee plus a modest handling charge. How about a link to the auction item just for laughs? I agree, collecting anything is queer. I don't want to say borderline mental disorder... but wait I just did (no offense lol). Seriously though, Hummel figurines and novelty spoons are bad enough but why the otherwise unusable junk from just another failed PC parts company? I could understand if there was some interesting detail about the parts that had a story or reflected the personality of the designers like those found at the Silicon Zoo... but there ain't. What's that axiom aboot possessions pwning you? 😉

what happen was, he actually advertise to only ship to Germany, but I PM him asking if he would ship to the US, and he said, in this case, YES because he would be flying to the US to visit his sister in chambersburg, Pennslyvania. Then he told me he can ship it from there.
So he wanted cashier's check instead of paypal or money order and I did send payment via first class mail. In fact, the check arrived PA even before he touched down to the States.

I suggested to him USPS Priority Mail as they provide free boxes, and base on its size, I know the card will fit into one of the boxes readily available by the post office.
Moreover, it only takes 2 to 3 business days to reach me in Kzoo, MI

But he decided to send it UPS ground instead... and to my horror, without using a box to ship.

Have you considered trying to heat up the packing tape glue with a hair dryer to loosen it up? You might be able to pull off the tape when it's hot without taking the outer box layer with it. Then you could use some sort of "Goo Gone" residue remover for the adhesive left over.

that is an extremely rare card,

there was one before that sold for about US$400
its a European VoodooMac 4500 PCI
that has DVI output

but isnt it still slower than anything out right now??

why collect something that will never return your money?

JB

is the card damaged ? If not..quit whining. Otherwise i agree..should hgave packed it better....but your pics ONLY show a slightly torn box.

oh..i see clear now....you are worried about the package because you, as a collector, also think the package is important ? (Because you collect them too ?!)

This is of course different from just buying an item while the item itself is FINE. A "normal" person wouldnt care about a slightly torn box 🙂

very nice idea guys, but at least you all understand.

Why collect something that has no returns?
Well, its self satisfaction, I know I will never get the value I paid for ever again.
Neither have I got any plans to sell it.

and yes, I collect them with the retail packaging. if possible with all accesories on it.
Even better sealed!

unless I am dead broke to a point of being bankcrupt.
Or if I get an extremely enormous offer in cash ( very very highly unlikely )

Yes, but a VoodooMac Euro edition is rare enough, and to get it retail box.
Its was never for sale in the USA.

although I am still looking for the brown box USA edition Voodoo 4 4500 for Macintosh

Heh. I have an NV-1 here. Offer away. Do I hear.. a quarter? 😛
(Still got the box, but it's been opened, and slightly beat up too. Card has been taken out, but never actually run in a system. I assume that it still works. Includes Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Fighter, and some Nascar game.)

If care towards the condition of the box was discussed prior to the sale and an agreement was made to ship with that in mind, I'd leave him a negative. I'm not a collector myself, but I have been trying to find a retail box for my old 12mb Creative V2 for the longest time so I understand how you feel.

thanks for the opinion guys.
I think it seems pretty obvious on his feedback now.

Just waiting for a another call from his sister in PA. I think she wants to discuss about the solution for this.
