<< This guy has done this deed. I don't approve it, but what can you change about it? Nothing, nada. Will it help if you kill this guy? Will it help those abused children overcome their 'mental problems'?
(I know that they'll experience those, and I know that it won't be easy for them, but one thing everyone here seems to underestimate is the ability of the mind to overcome hardships and handle them quickly and dismiss them. There's no need for them to 'suffer' from it for the rest of their lives) >>
Actually, you'll need to ask his victims if it would help him or not. Guess what? I'm still at the stage where I'd like my abuser to be put in the electric chair. It's a subjective thing, and unless it's you, you can't say what they would or would not want. And yes - it would have helped me with my "mental problems" (your words, not mine) if he had been punished severely - maybe even killed - I don't know because it didn't and won't happen for me. Maybe if it had it would have validated that what he did was an abomination against me, against God even. It is so damn wrong for an adult to violate a child in this manner, it goes so much deeper than just someone who can't control his desires. This is NOT about desire or urges, it's about power and control.
That said, no, I don't think everyone who does something wrong should be tortured and killed, and I don't know enough about this particular situation to know if this thing should be given the death penalty. But if he is guilty, then it is my right to say I think he should be tortured and killed, just as it's your right to say that what he did wasn't that bad.
Did you know that 1 in 4 people will be abused or molested by the time they are adults? Anandtech has how many members? 44,000 approximately? That means there are about 10,000 people here who have been in this situation. It is painful when we hear someone say we should "get over it" and "overcome hardships and handle them quickly and dismiss them." It's not that easy. Ever. And if it is, then they haven't really dealt with it. Again, I'm an expert here, which I hope you never have to be.
