I don't buy that there's no trace of anything on the boxes ... there's gotta be some sort of sticker, tracking, postage paid, barcode, meter, something on the boxes.

Ditto. I'm sure if you got $2000+ worth of stuff in the mail with apparently no way to contact someone to return it, you wouldn't consider keeping it

Here is something no one has mentioned yet.

Anyone ever tried to buy something on a CC and have it shipped elsewhere? Most times, you have to call the bank to get them to "turn on" an alternate address. If it is not turned on, the package will come to you. For instance, I was gonna teach someone how to assemble a computer long distance, and ordered a bunch of stuff from Newegg to be sent to his house, he would assemble it and learn on it, then send it to me. I put his address in and everything. The boxes came to my address anyway since if the ship to address is nto listed, Newegg auto sends it to the one listed.

The fact that their are no marks on the box besides an address sounds fishy. Perhaps someone stoll your friends CC # and tried to ship themselves something, but the vender shipped it to your friend instead. I would have your friend call up all the CC companies and look for a charge for a few grand. 200 grasshopper points says this is what happened.

Agreed. This story sounds like BS to me. Also, dellivery companys don't simply drop large items off on people's doorsteps without getting a signature. Normally, if knowone is home, they will take the item back to a depot and leave a slip in your mailbox telling you to pick up the item from the depot.

Normally, if knowone is home, they will take the item back to a depot and leave a slip in your mailbox telling you to pick up the item from the depot.

depends, if the previos resident had signature agreement on file that authorized them to drop off any boxes without him being there

I'll back RossMAN up on the call of BS at no stickers/labels/any markings on the box. However, I've seen plenty of boxes dropped off with no signature, or better yet, signed by someone whom they weren't addressed to. Think I'll tail the UPS van around and wait for a package with the Apple logo stamped on, then "meet him at the door"

That said, if it were me I would wait a few weeks for them to contact me if I had no way of contacting them. I sure wouldn't spend hours trying to find out whose it was or who delivered it. If it was printed on the box or the information was inside the box then yes but if none of that info was readily available then it would be up to them to contact me.

Exactly. It's not stealing if there was no apparent way to tell who to contact and if you wait a few weeks for them to contact you. What are you supposed to do? Throw it away?
 
3 week rule. If there's no markings on the box and nobody comes by to reclaim it, it's yours!!!!

i agree. UPS and FedEX don't just ship things randomly. they scan barcodes all the time. i'm sure there would have been a red flag raised somewhere, if there was nothing to scan and no return address.

if not, i hope i am that luck one day 🙂
