SOME PEOPLE ARE INSANE!!!

Let's start this post off as easily as possible. I'm Jewish, and let me say that when people make fun of the Holocaust, I normally get somewhat offended. No, I don't run around killig people and burning buildings to the ground, I just shrug it off and continue on with my life.

I've seen plenty of cartoons making fun of Jesus. Christians that look at them may get offended, but they don't riot. They might write a letter, but that's about it.

And now, we come to the Muslims. I have read tons of articles, and several books on why the religion of Islam shouldn't be though of as a violent one. Then, we get the cartoons. They're just cartoons, nothing worse. What's the reaction? Death to Denmark! Burn everything that has to do with them! Look, you can be Muslim, but no one can honestly condone what is happening. They're insane, and I was actually pleased to find out today that the Pakistani government has been stopping these protests. Enough is enough; get over it! A drawing is a drawing. From what I understood, the Koran teaches respect, not insanity. Thoughts?

Well, over last weekend there were several Muslim Imams on TV network news programs and it seems pretty clear that the Koran itself doesn't prohobit a likeness of Muhamid.

Now while idolitry (sp?) may be prohibited, this clearly was not a case idol worshipping on the part of the Danish newspaper.

Is the Danish paper published in Arab countries- not that I know of? If it were I think I could understand maybe a little taht offense would be taken. Having something shoved in your face can get people a little "hot". Again, that doesn't seem to be the case here. And if its offensive to publish this cartoon, who exectly is publishing it these countries. Oh yeah, that would be Arabs, right?

They're rioting because they're poor and have to travel around on camels? Well what about 100 hundred years ago in this country most people were as poor as Muslims are today and basical traverled on horses or mules. Did taht cause them to riot? Nope, its not simply having or not having.

Is it that the cause is that they are poor compared to us? Jeez, we're poor compared to the rulers, sultans and dictators in their own country. How does our percieved (I say "percieved" because 99%+ haven't visited here) wealth cause this when apparantly wealth of their sultans etc, who are over there, doesn't? Nah, ain't buying that as an excuse. Oh yeah, did I mention how "bright" it is, when you're poor, to run around tearing up a bunch of your crap because of something you never saw & hapened a zillion miles away. Is that some kind of an "Arab Wealth Building Program". Good luck with that, can't think of a quicker way out of poverty.

I'm starting to think they're (the rioters) just a bunch of immature & violent attention whores looking for any excuse to claim provocation so they can throw a "party" and tear up some sh1t. (I wish the stupid media would quit waiving cameras around and encouraging them.)

I'm reminded of sporting victories where immature thugs riot in the streets here and burn/overturn cars etc.

ATM, I'm leaning towards fundamental/structural societal flaws - poor parenting and bad leadership from their moral/social/religious leaders in these societies. As well as a lack of maturity, intellegence (which is to be differentiated from education) and logic or common sense.

The whole "continental drift" thingy is the best thing that's every happened IMHO. Thank gawd there are oceans between us.

Actually, if you look at those who organize terrorist attacks, they are almost all highly educated, mostly in western universities.

I don't see them as "just cartoons". If it was any other Muslim other than the prophet in the cartoon, I doubt the riots would have happened. You compared it to cartoons that make fun of Jesus-- pictures of Jesus have been around for a long time, but pictures of Mohammad are forbidden. I'm not saying that it makes everything right or anything, a cartoon that makes fun of Jesus should be frowned upon by Musilims as well. I'm just saying that drawing Mohammad in the first place can cause a lot of controversy.

Do I think that they are insane for standing up to show how they feel? No. They should do that. But they certainly shouldn't have gone in the direction that would harm or destroy anything or anyone. In the Friday Prayers today (I'm Muslim), the Imam actually mentioned this and said that Muslims should respond to things like this. But he also added we must be reasonable, without that harming innocent people or destroying things like others have done.

By the way, there are millions of Muslims in the United States. Where are the riots? I know that many, including myslef were offended.
