For the people who live and die by benchmarks, these were posted at The Register comparing a 1.1 GHz T-Bird with a 1.4 GHz P4:

The tests compare the AMD Thunderbird 1.1GHz chip with the Intel Pentium 4 1400, running Win98SE, and 128Mb of memory, and using the nv15 DDR/6.14 det3 for graphics. Here we go:

The Register? Oh you mean the Internet Enquirer. Don't believe everything you read, goog40. Those scores were taken on an old version of the RTL on a "make believe" platform. By "make believe" I mean that the i850, which is the only platform optimized for Pentium 4, was not used. Instead, since the i850 wasn't ready for the Pentium 4 when these tests were made, Intel used a different, hacked chipset to maintain the correct protocols. I wouldn't expect the scores to be that high in that case. Unfortunately, these were supposed to be internal only scores, but they were leaked to the outside world by someone that thought it would be cute to compare an old RTL of the Pentium 4 against a current RTL of the Athlon. Any benchmarks that you see up until the point of launch will definately be false, since Intel does not want to release benchmarks, and the ones you will see will be leaked. The only conclusion that I draw is that the Register has once again proved itself to be one of the many tabloids of the Internet.
