Reading that article tied my stomach in knots. Perhaps you can enlighten us as to what happened. What in god's name compelled them to beat a man to death?

Sounds like two of the guys didn't lay a hand on the guy, yet one was found guilty and the other is pleading to cut a deal. That's pretty fscked up.

Mark Harper and Jimmy Hill's step-son were mad at each other. This had gone on for months. Jimmy always protected his step-son and wouldn't let Mark near his Step-Son. Jimmy owned Hill's grocery store which is the main business in this small city. Anyways. They would always drive by Jimmy's house to fvck with him and his step-son. They wanted to fight his step-son but were pissed at Jimmy too. Finally one day he was tired of them harassing his step-son and him and came outside to confront him. Jeremy hit him in the leg, then his brother Zach hit him twice in the head. Mark didn't hit him at all and Chris was still in the truck.

I dont know how your friends can testify against each other. Chris Stano is testifying against the other two, yet he's going to go to jail also. It probably took only a couple blows to kill the guy.

That's what you get from beating man to death with aluminum baseball bats.

I am sure that the law has been discompassionate in this case. Zach deserves a great deal of reeducation and probably some jail time the other's.... I don't know but 10+ years in an adult prison will make them nothing more than rape victims. How will this help them? How can Mrs. Hill consider this justice? The condemnation of three children to have all dreams shattered and the almost certain doom of rape and other sexual abuse. Truly sad. The judicial system has great power to do good... I question whether this is an example of it.

Stano should have held out for a better deal or kept his mouth shut. He and Harper would have both been better off. Can't say much for the other two, I can't feel all that sympathetic towards them.

No offense, but they sound like plain trash to me (the people on trial, not the observer as it is possible he was not aware they were going out to harass and beat a man to death.. then again they did have the bats with them). Sadly seems their only remorse involves the conviction and sentencing.

Speculation.

These guys murdered a man, that's pretty clear if you ask me. You don't hit a guy in the head with baseball bats with the intent to do anything else but kill.

So instead of letting it go, they kept egging it on. Your "friends" are going where they belong. Make sure to take them some reach-arounds when you go to see them.:|

I don't understand why Mark gets 10 years to life and Chris gets 3 years? Both of them witnessed the incident without either attacking Hill or helping him.

Millenium,

I know it sucks to be you right now, but it sucks a hell of a lot more to be the family of the victim. These kids got what they deserved.

According to the article, Chris provided "key testimony". In other words, he made a deal.

Speculation based on a good amount of statistical data. There are plenty of sources to back up the fact of rape in prisons. I agree that the conviction is correct I just question whether the sentance is for the good of the convicted and society generally.

The "good" of the convicted? Who friggin CARES? As for the good of society; "society" won't have to worry about the punks clubbing anybody to death for a while.

Well if the testimony is true, then they deserve to go to jail. Murder is murder, and what the hell would compel someone so young to be so angry as to kill another kid? That is what's fvcked up!
