Some Nikon D3 sample images....

The ISO3200 and ISO6400 pics are not bad at all. I'd say that they are on par with Canon. I find it very interesting that all those years of Canon having a competitive advantage with their ultra low noise sensors is suddenly gone with the intro of the D3. It's like Nikon suddenly had the low noise stuff all figured out on their first CMOS DSLR release.

is it their own sensor though? or is it a sony sensor or something like that? i know sony make alot of camera sensors. i wanna see what ISO 256000 is like or whatever it was, it wasnt a typo was it?

anyway CMOS has been around for ages, so you'd hope they'd of done their homework with all the time that has passed. id of been suprised if they hadnt hit the nail on the head first time round.

that ISO 6400 shot very nice though, good job nikon!

The D300 sensor is a shared Sony design, but the D3 is all Nikon.

Let's hope the trend continues and forces the price of FF sensors downward.

Well, we'll see.
The D300/A700 sensors aren't identical but are awfully close as are the D40X/D80 & A100 sensors.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Sony have something remarkably similar in an as yet unlaunched body.

those are pretty amazing, especially seeing as they really havent been post processed much if at all, you can see dust and stuff in the harley pics, and if you ran the D3 pics through Noise Ninja or Neat image 😀
