Some moron in a Hyundai Tiburon tried to race me this morning...

Are they racing 600's? Is the rider a novice? I'm genuinely curious now as to what exactly your definition of cars and bikes is. Sure, a a stock WRX might beat a stock 500R - that loosely fits your description of "video's of cars beating bikes". All google is returning to me are video's of crap like R6's getting beaten by V8 muscle cars.

Yeah. There have been tons of modifications between the 2005 and prior, 2006-2007, and 2008 ZX10 models.

This is just an 05. 06-07 stomp the 05, and the 08 obliterates the 05.

Additionally; July 08 Cycleworld:

ZX10......It does 0 to 180mph in 17.21
08 Busa.............0 to 180mph in 18.25
08 ZX14............0 to 180mph in 19.77
08 GSXR1000......0 TO 180mph in 18.51

the 2008 ZX10 Also does 100 to 180 in 11.99
08 Hayabusa.................100 to 180 in 13.26
08 ZX14.......................100 to 180 in 14.73
08 GSXR1000.................100 to 180 in 18.51

Also keep in mind this is dead STOCK. The ZX10 has time and time again proven to be an extremely great tuner. Dropping the stock exhaust for a full Akrapovic alone nets you a gain of 10HP from a single aftermarket part.

there are more moron bikers out there then there are moron car drivers. wait, thats not right... the percentage of moron bikers to regular bikers is higher then the percentage of moron car drivers to regular car drivers.

seems 7 out of 10 bikers around here thinks its ok to weave in and out of lanes and between cars with 2 feet of clearance at any one point. i wish they would fall under my cars wheels.

edit😛s. i dont really wish that. it does piss me off though.

It pisses me off that other bikes do that and make other (me) look bad.
People assume that because i ride a sportbike that i run 120 down the highway on one wheel on the shoulder giving everybody the bird.... Sucks that people have that in there heads but hey, i dont do it nor do i have any desire to do it.
If i want to get stupid, ill go pay my 30 bucks, goto the local road coarse and speed to my hearts content.
My favorite line to the people that say "oh you only ride a 600, my 1000 will crush that thing.." "Any moron can turn the wrist, lets see you do it while doing something other than a straight line"

I've read that 7 out of 10 statistics thrown around on teh intarweb are pulled out of someone's ass. So, that begs the question...who's ass did you pull that out of?

I once pulled into the right lane on the highway in my Goat next to a dude on some bike (they all look the same to me) with a loud exhaust. I could tell he was going to try to speed up and pass/cut me off. I felt like a cantankerous prick that day, put it in 3rd at about 70 (3rd tops out 100, perfect to run from 70) and when he started to move I dropped it. I kept him at my door until he realized I wasn't behind him and he downshifted. He quickly started to pass 😀

I can hit 93 in first gear, but I probably would have let you pass just to watch your car drive by. 😉

Well since you consider bikes like R6's crap then this is a conversation that isn't going anywhere.

I don't think I'm in the minority in considering the R6 and other 600cc bikes to be "sport bikes".

Long Way Round

It was a series on BBC2 from 2004 where Ewan McGregor and his best friend ride their bikes from London to New York through much of Asia. I had caught episodes of it from time to time in my time in the UK...but recently decided to buy the whole series on DVD and my wife and I really enjoyed it.

I believe a new series on the BBC2 is the "Long Way Down" where they essentially did a similar Bike trip through Africa. I eagerly await that being released on DVD.

sounds interesting. gotta see if Blockbuster has it

Most of the riders I see around here ride normally, but once in a while I do see the prick. Case in point - One afternoon I was driving on a twisty single lane road with lots of blind curves. The road is a double yellow all the way through - so no passing. I wasnt speeding, but i wasnt abiding by the posted speed limit either - windows down, and music blaring. Driving along merrily with noone around me, when all of a sudden I hear a high pitched scream right next to my window.

It was after they'd passed me that I realized that two bikes came out of nowhere and passed me on either side - one on the shoulder, one right on the double yellow - while on a blind left curve! Now being startled like that scared the hell out of me and it was stupid of the bikers to do that, cuz someone else could easily have jerked the wheel when startled like that clipped one of the bikes!

What's worse is trucks that race from light to light, tailgating everyone and weaving around traffic. I don't care if a motorcycle does that but a huge ass suburban driving like an idiot in the rain is annoying and gives me fantasies of SUVs meeting a terrible end in the ditch ahead.

PSA-People in cars, don't mess with bikes. You'll just get your ass handed to you if the guy on the bike actually decides to race you.

While I don't disagree with you, people on bikes need to remember that in the contest of 1000 pounds of bike/rider -vs- 4000 pounds of car/driver, the bike & rider ALWAYS loses. Just ask the guy on the bike that putted out in front of me (while I was doing 55mph), and almost became my instantaneous hood ornament!!

More like 600lbs of bike & rider in my case. Yeah, I'm always alert to what is going on around me on the bike.

Another thing bikers need to be aware of is how hard it is to judge the speed of a vehicle approaching you. This is another reason I don't speed excessively on public roads. You could be doing 100mph on a bike in a matter of seconds from a standstill and still be accelerating hard but a car pulling out from a side road might think you are doing 40 or 50 when they pull out and not realize how fast you are actually closing on them.

It's always a bad idea to ride recklessly on a bike.

Just curious, what was the speed limit on the road you were doing 55mph on?

Ironically, it was a 55mph speed limit. This was close to 30 years ago (back in the dark ages!! ).

The way it happened was I was on the road, going through a long shallow curve to the right, and this guy was pulling out from a parking lot on the left side of the road. For whatever reason, he was lollygagging out onto the road, putt-putting his way up in speed, and pulled out only maybe two to three hundred feet in front of me. I don't think he was paying attention, and didn't see me coming, or had his mind on something else entirely.

The car I was driving didn't have power brakes (remember those days??), so I basically STOOD on the brakes with both feet, hollered for my passengers to hold on, and started leaning on the horn. Luckily, the car never locked up (though it was shuddering like no one's business while it was slowing down!!), I kept control through the curve, and the rider FINALLY noticed me flying up in his rear view mirror! He gunned it, but was awfully slow to speed up, while I was slowing as quickly as my brakes would let me.......I'd say we were less than 5 feet from each other when he finally started pulling away from me, and I could let off of the brakes!

The saddest part is that he never acknowledged his stupidity, never gave me a wave for seeing him and saving him from his own stupidity........he just rode off like nothing happened. And if that's the way he rode his bike all the time, I doubt he made it past the end of the Jimmy Carter administration before he got creamed!

 I went to lunch with this guy I work with a couple weeks ago (in my Maxima) and we were beside this big truck with a huge lift at the light, the light changed and he takes off so I gunned it a bit but not enough to bother trying to pass him. My friend says, "dude, you're getting beat by a truck!!!" to which I replied, "yeah, but it just cost him $2 to put on that little display." We had a good laugh over it. What a moron.

what you really meant to say was you let him win because you didn't want to waste gas money after spending thousands on the bike to save fuel that your Max was consuming too much of... and that's why you bicycle to work most days.

And how much money have you spent on movies or video games because you enjoy them?

Still have a hard time understanding why you care about other people's money.

If some Maxima "gunned it a bit" next to me I would gladly pay $5 in gas and $20 in tire to up the ante and get no less entertainment out of it than spending $60 on a video game disc. I do that by myself even when there isn't anybody next to me, it's fun. It's no different than spending $25 on a carnival ticket and going on a ride for an hour or two.

I think he took off normally, you felt intimidated and tried to keep up while he was still just pulling away normally. Then to save face and deny your hated nemesis the opportunity to humiliate you once he realized what was up, you backed off and changed the subject when you realized it was futile. To ease the burn of something you hate being better than you at something, especially in a way easily observed, you found a way to downplay it by bringing up gas mileage.

Often times people will claim other people have a superiority complex and have to be "making up for something", when actually it's the accuser having an inferiority complex taking it the wrong way and being intimidated easily. If you truly didn't care, you wouldn't spend all this energy bashing SUVs and trucks all the time and then come back to post about how you smoked a slow car on your crotch rocket. What about the $1 you spent there putting on that little show for a Tiburon?

I pass so many people in hybrids just because they are going slow and they get all butt hurt and try to stop me from passing (lawl!!!) It's not like I forced them to buy their car. They want to feel green and responsible and save money, but get pissed off if someone is better than them and start calling for bans on everything better than their car under the guise of
"saving the environment" or "safety". You can't have your cake and eat it too, farking pick one or the other and be happy with YOUR choice and let others be happy with THEIR choice.

I need to get one of those "Drive more Hybrids, I need your gas" shirts.
