oi. so i was suppose to get housing with 3 other guys for an on campus housing but we did not get the lottery so they are moving off campus (5 miles or so) I dont think im going to be moving off campus staying in dorms again even though its about 1-3k more expensive. so what do you guys think of me paying 1200 more a year to get a double as a single? Im thinking it might be worth it because i hate having to have no lights on right now when my roomate sleeps but i cant have the lights on when he does. hes a great roomate just i dont sleep early. just I can do more stuff in my room i guess like have music / tv on whenever i want and not feel like im being rude. if i lived in a double with another person itd be 4800 but for 6100 it's double as a single.

sorry for rant :p pze.

btw i plan on moving off residental halls defintely by third year.

10k? Screw that, you can get a decent used car for way less than that :)

live in campus housing / dorm the 1st year, that's when you meet all the p00n and make your good friends.

then you get the l33t VIP party pad for years 2-?. tried, tested & true. do it do it.

Just get a close apt unless you really don't have a problem with the dorms and can afford the greater cost (yet can't spend a a few thousand on a car?). Biking to school is a good idea, and walk in the winter it can't be that bad. Man I'm up @ Michigan Tech and I walk like a mile down and up the biggest frickin' hill every day in sometimes crazy weather. If the winters really are bad, you are much more safe walking.

Likewise. I wouldn't want to live in the dorms here. UC is ok, but you stil have annoying roommate issues.

off campus rocks, but being a commuter sucks, if only for social reasons.

edit: as to whether or not to pay for the single... it depends on your financial situation. if it was me, I'd definitely have done it, but if you're eating ramen and can't afford liquor money every weekend, I'd save the money and spend it on more important things (like liquor and books).

More girls to bang and get to know.

you raise a good point :)

by the time I moved off-campus, I'd already spent 3 years in the dorms and already had a pretty well-built social circle. being a freshman and living off-campus would have totally sucked, though.

as much as I hated the dorms at times, it's how I got to know most of my really good college friends.
