Update: I swapped drive in the Iomagic and it works

NOW I HAVE A EXTERNAL DVD+R FOR $70 ($50 dvd+R and $20 for the external case + a internal Benq 48x cdrw)

Hey,
I am having problem fitting the NEC 1100A into the I/O Magic external case. The back of the IDE connector is not a cable but rather a black plastic strip the connect directly into the IDE port of the BenQ drive. So the NEC 1100A is shifted half an inch over the left side so how can you fit it in? Is there a way to remove the black strip and use an IDE ribbon in its place?

the io magic case that i have, has a ide cable with the wires seperated.

I switched the I/O magic cable with the cendyne cable which has a metal weight clip in the middle of the ide cable. The iomagic case is longer than cendyne.

I am going to try to install a single 12" ide cable in the iomagic case or try to find a 3" or 6" cable to compensate for the leftedness.

or might put in a liteon combo drive in the cendyne case.

CenDyne USB 2.0 Enclosure - Replacement procedure

Photos to go with the text (temporary)

This enclosure is very easy to open IF (big IF) you know what to do.

There are 6 tabs holding the case together (four on the main body and two holding in the face plate). The face plate tabs are located on the sides.

Face plate removal: Take a very thin blade/pin (a jeweler's flat head screw driver or straightened out paper clip) and gently insert in the center on side of faceplate. This will depress the plastic clip that holds the faceplate and it will slide right out. {Added Note: the insertion points to release the face plate are about 1/2 inch back from the face plate to case seam in the thin groove - look closely, there is a small opening to insert the paperclip)

Spliting Case: Same concept, there are two places on the side seam that are thin rectangular shaped openings. Insert the thin blade/pin in these two locations and the clips will be released. I did have to push a little harder on the last one I removed. Up until that time I had used the paperclip and it was bending so I used my smallest jeweler's screw driver.

Remove the shield across the top of the drive (four screws - two on each side). Lift shield out and disconnect the IDE cable, Molex power connector, and Audio cable.

Removing Drive: Once case and shield are apart, there are two screws under the plastic feet in the front. The plastic pads need to be pried off (keep them clean and they will stick again). Remove the two screws and lift the drive to disengage the plastic pins that are inserted into the bottom two screw holes near the back of the drive. You don't need to remove the two screws on the back plate. They hold the USB stuff in the case and not the drive.


Done.

Reassembly is the reverse 🙂 except that the case will click together nicelywithout the blade.

I work at a Office Max also, when we had them in stock we carried them upfront where the CS desk is near where the digi cameras are located, but then they were moved to one of the clerance endcaps in the electronics dept. (TechMax Dept.)

What is the CEO doing? Being driven from store to store throughout the southland? Visited the Cypress store last week I think I was told by a mgr there.

pacific digital 30146 is btc -- opened it up and looked at faceplate

I don't think he went the Cypress store. He came down for a big meeting with all of the store managers, and DMs. He stopped by our store first b/c it was only 5 minutes from the meeting site. But he did not visit any other store. So we were given unlimited hours for that week. A lot of early mornings that I did not have to do, so glad.

I sold our last Thumb Drive not sure if other stores will have them in stock.
Also on the CD-RW drive not sure what brands they are but when I'm in again on Thursday I can check to see which brands they are I assume they are the Khypermedia drive and Pacific Digital ones.
 
Since this thread is still alive, I've got a question.

My local OM has over 2 dozen of the Khypermedia 48X CDRWs in stock (brand new....UPC still intact....not returns!).........but there are 2 distinctly different drives inside the boxes. One is made in China and the other is made in Malaysia. Does anyone know who the "real" manufacturer of each drive is?

I did get the last I/O Magic 48X CDRW they had.....still unopened and it was a rebranded Optorite drive inside.

Oh......and the thumb drive they're selling is the Lexar 128MB Thumbdrive........manager said they have tons in stock and keep getting more.
 
Hmm. Great deal on that Lexar 128MB USB flash drive. I bought the "Lexar 128MB jumpDrive Secure" at Wal-Mart some months ago for $36, it was the cheapest regular retail price that I could find at the time. The "Secure" part of it, is some bundled (on the drive) encrypted-partition software. I don't use it, because it appears that you actually have to install the software onto each host machine that you plug it into, in order to access your encrypted data. Since I plan to use it on public machines, that won't work for me. Btw, mine is USB 1.1, and is labeled "6x speed". It does roughly almost 1MB/s transfer rate, writes a little slower. Still faster than a floppy drive.
