Some help- what wine to pair with indian food

Need some help- have a dinner party tonight hosted by a fabulous indian couple. I'd like to bring a standard gift (wine or such), but I've rarely eaten indian food and have no idea what pairs well.

No idea what region of india they're from or what they're planning on cooking (beyond it being indian). I'm guessing a dry white would work- but hoping anyone with more experience can recommend a few of their favorites. Looking for a <$30 bottle.

If there is a different drink you'd recommend- I'm all ears. Thanks

Do you know if they drink? Some Indians don't drink alcohol at all. If they don't, your gift will sit in the fridge like the bottle my mom received about 4 years ago.

Get the fruitiest Chardonnay!

my reccomendation J. Lohr's Chardonnay (less than $10) goes well with the common indian spices .. hth

A very powerfull semi-sweet white wine which also have lots of fruit-acid, like a Gewürtztraminer or similar goes very well to spicey curry.

In all fairness, its been incredibly rare to find any employee who has any knowledge of their products, beyond the major types of wine. And since I don't have much experience with Riesling or Gewurztraminer types of wine- I'm looking for a more personal recommendation.

But if it doesn't make sense, sorry.

i don't think you're supposed to have wine with indian food, but that's just me (me being indian)

There are many wines which goes well with indian food like Riesling, Semillon-Chardonnay, white zin. Red wine lovers can go for Shiraz, Beaujolais, Bardolino. My favourite has to be German white wine called Grunder Veltliner.

Many people have beer, to much my surprise.

The wines on the homepage have ratings from wine magazines, I would suggest you find one you think sounds delicoius in its description, have a high score and has the price you're looking for. If you're willing to go up to $30 there's a very good chance that you don't end up with some shite 🙂

they might be Muslim....and many Hindus also don't drink...(it's for 'bad' people)

If you're bringing some kind of food, you should probably steer clear of meat. ALot of indians are vegetarians and you're never sure which ones are and which ones arent
