I went to a local gun show and came home a few hundred dollar poorer, but 3 guns richers. 😉

I've wanted a semi auto 7.62x39 for a while now. Ammo is decently cheap and it's still a powerful enough round to have fun plinking (you should see a 7.62x54r vs. an HP Laserjet 🙂 ).

I got the SKS and a 20 round mag, the HiPoint in 45 auto now.

I'll also be picking up this Jennings J-22 (.22 caliber) this weekend after the waiting period.

They are mostly cheap guns, but I just like target shooting and plinking really.

I've been reading up on the SKS a bit, I know there are plenty of firearm enthusiasts here, so I was hoping to get some information as well as just wanted to post some gun pr0n. 🙂 I read about 'slam firing' that can be a bit of a problem for the SKS... anyone know of any really decent info sites? I'd like to learn how to take it a part for cleaning. It's in nice shape from what I can see, so I'd like to keep it nice.

Thats a nice looking SKS. Is it Romanian or Yugo or other? Do you mind me asking how much you paid? Prices have skyrocketed. As for the slam-fires if you stick to mil-surp ammo you'll be fin, the primers are hard as hell.

Is 'Wolf' ok, steel case? I've bought that surplus in the past.

I will definitely use surplus, I usually go through several hundred rounds with my Mosin that is a bolt actions, so I know a 20 round capacity semi auto will chew through ammo with me. 😉 So, the only real option for me is surplus because of how much I shoot.

No problem on the price. I paid $300, got the dealer to pay the tax, so it was $300 even. That's fairly standard it seems as far as a break in the price, right now you're just not going to be able to hagle the price down much. I'm not sure of the make, I'm really not too familiar with the gun yet, I saw the markings on the barrel but haven't made out what they mean yet. I'll post better pictures if there is any interest, mabye someone can decipher that for me.
 
I don't get the whole "guns laying on a table" picture infatuation.

No one ever takes pictures of the guns in action (being shot) or pictures of things they shot with it (preferably target sheets).

It's like I tell you that I'm a cooking fanatic, then I just post pictures of frying pan closeups.

The wife and neighbors wouldn't be too happy if I was getting action shots in the home. 🙂 I'm hoping to go to the local range this weekend or next.

Because people don't care about you. It's the gun that matters.
 
I believe the sks is designed after a soviet antitank gun,thats what I found when I googled for mine(class of 1999) I have never tried to bump fire the sks,but if you 'you tube' bump fire you will see it in action.It is a very sturdy weapon.Don't disguard the battle mag that came with it(10 round).
 
Just bumping this up, I picked up the little .22 hand gun. It's very tiny... anyway, incase anyone wanted to see it I have edited the OP.

As long as you know that.

Get yourself a Browning Buckmark or a Ruger Mk2 or Mk3 when you want to upgrade.

A buckmark with aftermarket threaded barrel and Gemtech suppressor is a wonderful thing.
 
Looks like a Yugo 59/66 made CA compliant (bayonet lug looks sheared and the muzzle threads look to be gone).

FWIW, with a 20 round magazine and without putting 922r parts in it, you've committed a felony.

Generally, you can't.

I've never seen a 922r compliant SKS in person. No one bothers to change out the needed parts. Doesn't make it any less of a felony though.
 
What is a waiting period...lol. Wow I didn't know SKS prices have climbed that much, they were sub 100 just a couple years ago.
 
SKS ammo 7.62 X 39 used to be $89 per 1000 rounds just like 5 - 7 years ago. I can't believe it is over $300 now and most gun shows don't have any of it even at that price. It is almost no longer a plinker anymore.

Yea, that's pretty much why I bought it. Based on the ammo prices I saw from the past. I see things have changed! I'm still looking forward to shooting it at the range this weekend.
